Thinking of going DIY w/ Luna Wolves gene-seed

I've been thinking of making a DIY Chapter, since I've been hard-pressed to find a GW-created one that I'm enamored with. I'm a fan of the HH stories and I particularly like the Luna Wolves prior to them turning traitor. In short, I'm interested in making a DIY Chapter which (secretly) is constructed from the Luna Wolves' gene-seed. If such a thing were to happen, I'm sure the only ones to know would be those on Terra who authorized it and maybe the Chapter Master and his subordinates. Perhaps it could be the project of a radical Inquisitor, believing the gene-seed of Horus is the best-suited to fight Chaos and the Black Legion, in particular. Like the Dark Angels and their secret past, this Chapter could have the secret of their creation known only to a select few. However, I'm unsure what to name such a Chapter or think of a color scheme. I want to pay homage to those Luna Wolves that refused to follow Chaos (surely there were some), but to use the same heraldry as the original Chapter would probably raise suspicion from other Space Marines and the Inquisition.

Any thoughts on this? I'd like some suggestions regarding the plausibility of a Luna Wolves successor and what I should keep in mind when fleshing them out further.

It is largely rumoured that the Cursed founding (21st) had a sizable amount of its chapters bred from the gene-seed of traitor primogenitors from pre-heresy stock.

Biggest two rumored proponents of this possibility (to my knowledge) are the Blood Ravens (1k Sons) and the Minotaurs (World Eaters; though also rumored to be pre-heresy loyalist survivors of WE)

Then it could be a plausible scenario, I think.

The organisation and methods of the Chapter will reflect those used by the Luna Wolves, although modified to fit the Codex Asartes. I was thinking of keeping the wolf theme, since the Legion was only called the Luna Wolves due to their pacification of Luna. I think the wolf theme relates more to the ideals and core of the Legion. If anyone asks, I can always clarify the Chapter has nothing to do with the Space Wolves. "Wolves of Terra" popped into my head; I was also thinking of mentioning Cthonia, although the planet has long been destroyed. The Chapter's going to be located in the Segmentum Solar, although I was toying with the idea of making them fleet-based.

I got this imagine as I read though this whole thing that the loyal Luna Wolves declared themselves going on a penal crusade on their own as a way for them to redeem themselves since maybe the Imperium viewed the loyalist marines as still traitors. This would help make them fleet-based and maybe only a few of the gene-seed used are that of the Luna Wolves.

Just my ideas wandering around again. :D

Only problem is, I'm not sure how many loyalist Luna Wolves survived the Heresy. We know Garviel Loken was restored to his sanity by Garro, both of which reported to Malcador, who was to found the Inquisition. Garviel remained loyal to the Imperium, and if he became an Inquisitor, I don't doubt that some within the Imperium may believe the Pre-Heresy gene-seeds could still be used for the good of Mankind. If the Inquisitorial Representative of the High Lords of Terra was a Radical and somehow was able to justify the creation of a Chapter with Luna Wolf gene-seed, it could be done.

As to the role they'd play, I'm still figuring out a purpose for their creation. During the Great Crusade, the Luna Wolves were at the forefront, conquering worlds and ensuring compliance with the Emperor's rule. Now that the Imperium is so large and doesn't have a single campaign to subjugate worlds, would a successor Chapter be suited to undergo constant crusades of worlds, or guard the Segmentum Solar?

The 21st Founding is the way to go for you. I suggest being very subtle about their gene-seed. I would warn against the Loyalist angle, as any survivors would be closely guarded. The White Hands are what I feel are a good example of the use of traitor gene-seed to found a chapter.

Madwolf

It would probably be best to avoid dropping any big names, and unless the chapter was founded fairly early on I doubt they would have had much to do with it anyway. As for surviving Luna Wolves that would be slim to none, unless we are talking warp storms.

For stuff like this, less is more. Subtlety and simplicity are your friends. I tried making a Luna Wolves successor, got carried away, and ended up making it ridiculous by trying to hard.

Indeed; Madwolf brought it up as an example of a Chapter using the gene-seed of a traitor legion. Yes, I'm trying to come up with a conceivable story. I guess I'll just have to work on it for a while and see what the reactions are afterwards. Then I'll know what to change.
