Khorne's Eternal Hunt: World Eaters and some Traitor Guard

Thanks a lot for the feedback and kind words, people!

@ Paladin7221: That's two WoC Chaos Knight hand weapons spliced together and added on top of the staff that comes with the Chaos Terminator Lord kit. The lower third or so of the staff was cut off, though, to make it look slightly less unwieldy ;)

@ Tanith Ghost: For the longest time, I thought that a Daemon Prince didn't really fit into my army's fluff -- you see, the warriors of Khorne's Eternal Hunt are doing all they can to keep the company together as a functioning force. They are even singling out the mutated legionaries to use them as some kind of "Death Company", lest the rest of the force be infected with their corruption. So I imagine the warriors of the 4th assault company would consider attaining daemonhood not as an ultimate goal, but actually as a horror not far removed from spawndom.

That said, with the very real option of a champion trasforming into a DP during a game, I'll need a DP model, if only for those cases. However, it will be a model quite different from the princes you usually see, since I want to keep it true to the look and feel of the force and to the background I outlined above. So while I do already have a plan (and, in fact, a WIP build), expect something pretty different...

Thanks, Jofus!

The original recipe was to paint the skin in GW Dheneb Stone (over a black undercoat), then wash liberally with GW Badab Black and then add some accents with Dheneb Stone.

Fortunately enough, using GW Rakarth Flesh and the Nuln Oil wash leads to a virtually indistinguishable result.

Hope this helps!

Phew, it's been a while, but I have something new to show you guys:

In order to produce something every once in a while that I can use in my “regular” 40k army, I got some more work in on my squad of traitorous Space Wolves: My first test model came out well enough, but I realised that I would maybe have to pay more attention to make these models look suitably chaotic and not just like members of the 13th company who had been forced to use pieces of CSM armour to repair their gear. So my next Blood Wolves maintained a better balance between SW and CSM parts, since I even reworked the initial test models. Now it was time to actually paint them!

Here are the finished models:

This guy is actually my favourite so far, since that Raptor helmet just looks quite menacing for some reason, but not so overtly chaotic that you can put your finger on what it is right away. The model was painted in the same colours as the first test model, and the fur areas gave me a nice chance to introduce an additional colour to the model. I also added one of my simple OSL effects to the model’s plasma pistol.

And the last remaining test model:

This guy actually shows some skin, so I used the same recipe for pale skin that had already worked rather nicely on both my Traitor Guard and the Joras Turnpelt model. This model was in a pretty rough condition due to the bitz I used in its construction being in a verry sorry state to begin with, so I had to be careful during painting, paying attention not to slather yet another thick coat of paint on top. That said, I think I managed to salvage the model well enough!

So here’s a comparison shot for you:

This is what the models looked like before painting:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2013/1/25/456687_sm-Chaos%2C%20Chaos%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Khorne%2C%20Khorne%20Wolves%2C%20Renegades%2C%20Space%20Wolves.JPG

Still not easy to look at, am I right?

And here they are as they are looking now:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2013/5/8/493672_sm-Blood%20Wolves%2C%20Chaos%2C%20Chaos%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Conversion%2C%20Fallen%20Wolves%2C%20Joras%20Turnpelt.JPG

Quite a transformation, don’t you think? Especially if you consider the rather sorry state some of those bitz were in! As you can see, I did some slight changes to the models, adding a trophy here or swapping a head or shoulder pad there, but all in all, they still look reasonably similar to the initial builds. The new colours are much nicer, though…

So, just for fun, I also took another picture of the models alongside some chaos hounds I painted quite a while ago:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2013/5/8/493675_sm-Blood%20Wolves%2C%20Chaos%2C%20Chaos%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Conversion%2C%20Fallen%20Wolves%2C%20Joras%20Turnpelt.JPG

These are a great fit for both my World Eaters and their Blood Wolves allies, and if I ever add daemonic allies to the force, I believe these hounds will be used as “counts as” Bloodletters. The image of a huge pack of hounds being used by Khorne’s Eternal Hunt to run down their prey really appeals to me!

And, of course, a picture of all the Blood Wolves I have managed to paint so far:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2013/5/8/493674_sm-Blood%20Wolves%2C%20Chaos%2C%20Chaos%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Conversion%2C%20Fallen%20Wolves%2C%20Joras%20Turnpelt.JPG

Both the models and paint recipe took some time to come together, but I am reasonably pleased now. While these are looking quite distinct from my World Eaters, that had been the plan all along. And I think they are doing a good job of channelling the sinister, feral side of the Space Wolves.

So, what do you think? Am I onto something here? Let me know what you think! And, as always, thanks for looking and stay tuned for more!

Some great additions to your growing force thumbsup.gif I've always liked Chaos-y Space Wolves.

Oh, and by the way, could you please PM me your address so that I can get those bits I promised you almost a month ago posted during the next few days? Cheers smile.png

Now those are traitor wolves :)

And with the compliment out of the way, on to the nitpicking!  My main issue with them is that they are gray models on gray bases.  My second issue is the gray on the models themselves.  I feel like it could either use a highlight, or a much bolder, slightly larger shading.  As it stands, it's a pretty flat gray all over.  There's nothing wrong with a muted gray, especially for wolves, but to me this looks a half step away from the blocking phase.

The kitbashing is, as ever, superb.

Compliment sandwich complete!  End transmission!

Firepower brings forth a very good point (as usual) concerning the mostly grey models on grey bases. On one side, I think it works, but on the other... not so much. But then again, you've based your whole army this way, so it's not as if you were going to change that now, is it? ;)

Cheers, guys! ;)

The point regarding the bases is valid, of course. But Battle-Brother Ludovic really said it already: There's no changing the basing recipe for my army now - that said, had I known that I would be adding some grey-armoured models at some point, I might have chosen differently in the first place ;)

On a brighter note, the shading on these models is actually a bit better than it appears: The pictures above were taken in *very* bright light, as you may be able to tell, so the lighting eats some of the nuances. Even though I chose a relatively "quick and dirty" approach with these, the brown wash in the recesses adds some rather nice definition to the models.

It's been quite some time since we last heard of my converted chaos spawn, so I decided I wanted to get another of those painted this weekend.

You may remember that my chaos spawn were converted to look not so much like creepy crawly monsters, but rather to represent "The Forsaken", those brothers of the World Eaters 4th assault company whose madness and physical corruption have devolved them so much that they are now merely raging beasts. The models were built using Vargheist/Crypt Horror bodies and Minotaur arms, with lots and lots of GS in between to build up the necessary muscle mass.

Anway, here's the model I managed to complete just now:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2013/6/9/505039_sm-Chaos%2C%20Chaos%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Chaos%20Spawn%2C%20Conversion%2C%20Forsaken%2C%20Khorne%2C%20Spawn.JPG

The model was built to be looking like it was bellowing in rage at its prospective next enemy. As you can see, I added some Butcher's Nails implants to the Forsaken's head, as well as a Triumph Rope scar to its chest.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2013/6/9/505040_sm-Chaos%2C%20Chaos%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Chaos%20Spawn%2C%20Conversion%2C%20Forsaken%2C%20Khorne%2C%20Spawn.JPG

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2013/6/9/505041_sm-Chaos%2C%20Chaos%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Chaos%20Spawn%2C%20Conversion%2C%20Forsaken%2C%20Khorne%2C%20Spawn.JPG

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2013/6/9/505042_sm-Chaos%2C%20Chaos%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Chaos%20Spawn%2C%20Conversion%2C%20Forsaken%2C%20Khorne%2C%20Spawn.JPG

The horrible, open back of the model (where I imagine a combination of the physiological changes necessary for becoming an Astartes and the raw forces of chaos has begun to tear the wretched creature's body apart, was painted using Tamiya Clear Red to make it look like a sickening, glistening mess of raw meat. I seriously considered painting the spine in metal, but in the end, decided against it.

Here's a detail shot of that particular area:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2013/6/9/505044_sm-Chaos%2C%20Chaos%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Chaos%20Spawn%2C%20Conversion%2C%20Forsaken%2C%20Khorne%2C%20Spawn.JPG

And here are the two finished Forsaken so far:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2013/6/9/505043_sm-Chaos%2C%20Chaos%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Chaos%20Spawn%2C%20Conversion%2C%20Forsaken%2C%20Khorne%2C%20Spawn.JPG

And the third one has been undercoated, at least:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2013/6/9/505045_sm-Chaos%2C%20Chaos%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Chaos%20Spawn%2C%20Conversion%2C%20Forsaken%2C%20Khorne%2C%20Spawn.JPG

As always, C&C are very welcome!

....I hate you. I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, I HATE YOU I HATEYOUIHATEYOUIHATEYOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUU

Just kidding. Well, a bit.

Fantastic conversion ideas, I think I'm finally going to have to give in and get some more Fantasy bits to improve my Doomseekers.

Keep up the inspiring work. :)

Od.
