Kaika87
I'm trying to paint up a Word Bearers army, and I really want to have scrawled text on their armor and impurity seals decorating the models with more words of Lorgar scrawled onto them. However, each time I try, it just ends up too thick or I don't have enough paint on my brush so the line turns patchy very quickly. I have searched high and low for a good tutorial, but everything I find just tells me "take a thin brush and draw squiggly lines." Does anyone have any other tips? Anyone else have this problem and found a solution? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/266426-text-on-armorpurity-seals/ Share on other sites
tubby131313
I suggest a fine point marker like a Sakura Pigma Micron, I have used the 02 (0.30 mm) and the 005 (0.20 mm), they both worked very good and made neat and consistant lines. Kaika87
There's a good idea. Are those sold at hobby stores? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/266426-text-on-armorpurity-seals/#findComment-3245318 Share on other sites
Razblood
Art stores and online are your best bet for pens like that, Architectural supply stores my stock them too, but I'm not positive. I just use a very fine (Army painter Insane detail brush, though a 000 or smaller should do) brush and thin my black to about skimmed milk consistency then do dots and squiggles to approximate writing. TennisBall
If you use paint, it needs to be watery and you barely touch the surface with your brush. Practice on something else first like the base or a piece of sprue. Pigment pens are good and come in different colours. Disruptor_fe404
I use a fine-point felt-tip pen for my purity seals and lettering on scrolls. IK Viper
I am not teribly skilled with the brush either but in order to compensate I get a pretty decent effect by taking my detail brush and "dotting" the lines of text, forming lines of paint blots of verious sizes, works better then the standard ol black lines I used to do. Master Chaplain Astador
There are a few good ways to go about painting text. If your going to use a brush, use a good quality brush, not a GW brush or walmart brush. I'd recommend Windsor & Newton Series 7 size 0, 00, or 000. Then instead of water you want to use a Flow Improver. It allows the paint to flow off the brush unlike water. It also holds the pigment in. The other option is to order a micropen and hand write the text. Retributis
I've tried using my micron pen on a few test models but the problem I have is sealing it so it doesn't smudge. Any ideas? S.k.i.t.t.l.e
I've tried using my micron pen on a few test models but the problem I have is sealing it so it doesn't smudge. Any ideas? Spray-on matt varnish? Or give it a couple of hours to fully dry, then brush on varnish very lightly? Disruptor_fe404
Give it an hour or so to fully dry. It definitely takes longer than the acryllics we use. The Sound of Machines
Hey mate, I just use a fine brush and let me hand tremors take over. The thing for me is to use Charadon or Black/Brown mixed rather than just black - to make it look a little more natural. Also, thin your paint, but not too thin - I think this pic below is a good example (if I can say so myself!!?!!) of what this method can produce. I've looked into those micro pens, but you're really just doing the same as above, but with a pen... http://i578.photobucket.com/albums/ss222/DerekStrontium/Demons/DSC07411_zps5474c12e.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/266426-text-on-armorpurity-seals/#findComment-3252145 Share on other sites
Voodoo Painting
Like what has been said before me either a very fine pen can be used (if you do take this option then i suggest letting it dry over night before sealing the model afterwards, this will stop any smudging) or the technique I use and works really well is the finest brush you can find ( i use GW fine detail brush) and paint as you say squiggly lines. Make sure you paint is slightly watered down though as this helps the paint flow more freely. Hope this helps Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/266426-text-on-armorpurity-seals/#findComment-3252980 Share on other sites
