Machinepriest
So I'm about to place a massive Forge World order, but I'm having some major problems deciding which legion I'm going to paint. Which means I'm most likely not buying any legion specific bits this time. I am however buying both MK2 and MK4 marines, plus jet bikes, which, as you know are being piloted by MK4 armoured marines. Now I'm trying to decide between World Eaters and Death Guard. Two legions which are often represented with three different marks of armour. World Eaters = MK4 Death Guard = MK2 and MK3 I was wondering if there is any fluff behind this? I'm having a hard time picturing Death Guard in MK4 armour for some reason, as it doesn't give off the same "slow and purposeful" vibe as the heavier looking MK2 and 3. I guess I could just do a split force, with the assault elements of the army painted as World Eaters. But yeah... Money. Any thoughts? Grotsmasha
IMO, Death Guard have that aesthetic due to the earlier plague marines looking very similar to mkII/mkIII, there is no fluff reason to not include mkIV, I'll have a look through collected visions for DG imagery. TennisBall
All the traitor legions were well equipped with the newer MKIV suits. I would expect units that were used in siege or trench warfare would most likely have the heavier MKIII armour. The rest would be in MKII if no MKIV were available. 'Galaxy in Flames'? suggests that the Death Guard had dug in and were using trench warfare to attack the Choral City. Many of them were likely in MKIII as it provides heavier front protection. What should be avoided is using MKIII with jump packs, anything else pretty much goes depending on what you like. MkIII as kit for jump troops is a silly idea considering the function the armour is intended for. Edit - Wait a sec, Machinepriest? Boy, I haven't seen you around for a while. Are you going to revisit your Space Sharks any time or have you moved onto greener pastures? :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/266522-space-marine-legions/#findComment-3246666 Share on other sites

I'm not sure - I quite like the idea of MkIII marines with jump packs for propelling them forward rather than up-and-over, for boarding assaults. "Xenos!", whoosh, thump into end of corridor... Machinepriest
Thanks for your input guys! I flicked through The Horus Heresy - Collected Visions and noticed that the Death Guard were often portrayed with MK IV armour (with some additional tubes). I'm a sucker for themes, so I will most likely have most of my Death Guard suited in MKII and III armour, and my World Eaters in MKIV as I decided on a combined force. Death Guard infantry, a Dreadnought, a couple of heavy tanks and some Terminators. World Eaters infantry mounted in rhinos or with jump packs, some jet bikes and a crazy ass close combat Dreadnought. That's the plan at least. Edit - Wait a sec, Machinepriest? Boy, I haven't seen you around for a while. Are you going to revisit your Space Sharks any time or have you moved onto greener pastures? ;) I still lurk here from time to time :) I haven't touched the Carcharodons in ages though as I got quite bored with them. They're standing 8 Tacticals and 2 Terminators strong, poor sods...
