which legion will you be making?

so i was wondering which legion everyone plans to make their collection in, and what were the reason for their decision. this way, we might help others who are still on the fence and cant decide what Legion to go with.

me, i've chosen the Emperor's Children and decided to do a loyalist faction. i'm going to try and model the force to capture specific aspects of the 3rd Legion, such as their prowess for swordsmanship, preference for fast striking units, and the fact they had a larger than normal Apothecarion than the other legions. the last part caught my attention most since my 40k chapter is the Red Scorpions and they are the same in that regard.

the units of note in my collection will be:

a Primus Medicae, and a pair of Apothecaries.

a Palatine Blades squad

a Biker Squad

and my Praetor will use a Paragon Blade.

I'm going to be doing a sons of horus army, this is because loken... nuff said. But seriously this chap is awesome so how can I not have him leading my army? Also I intend to get Horus at some point who is just badass, I also like their fighting styles. My army initialy is gonna be based around an Istvaan army, consisting mostly marines, from the first wave, but also maybe some other things, like terminators and some veteran units, I'm also planning on some ramshakle predators, so rhinos with heavy weapon marines sitting on top.

Units of note:

Gotta have a command squad for loken, also loken himself.

master of signalls and a vigilator (not in the same game)

Prob a few heavy weaponswith the signals (BS5 FTW!)

Ultramarines. It helps that I've got a fair amount of Mark II, III and IV armour already. Plus, the colour schemes are the same for 30K and 40K.

Iron Hands would have been my next option (and I may do a small army of these in the future).

id take a Vet squad and model Nero leading them, Locaster is a must have if your having Loken lead

I'm playing safe and going with Ultramarines. Blue and Green are the easiest colours for me to paint and I'd done several test models on a deep rich blue which came off well. Plus it's a legion that has access to just about every thing possible for a space marine legion to have and nothing would seem out of place, except maybe Destroyers. So what ever peaks my interest I could take. I would of preferred to do Imperial Fists but every time I tried to paint yellow I was always disappointed with the outcome.

I'm also contemplating doing a detachment of White Scars that may be turned into a full army, I got some inspiration to convert my own Khan after reading Brotherhood of the Storm and I have a master of the ravenwing I wasn't using so I'm going to convert it. I'm not sure what way to paint white though, there's so many possible ways. I was thinking of spraying it white, going over in white paint, doing a layer of bone colour, then a wash of devlan mud or something and then work my way up to white, so that it looks like the armour is dirty with mud in the crevices.

I have already started the 4 Legions in the book. Mind you i started them before that book was even probably finished for a final draft but I got lucky they started with them and not something else. :tu: I may do a squad or two of other legions but i think 4 of 18 is more than enough of a project all considered. 4 armies of 2000 pts is a lot of models after all. :)
Ultramarines! My blue has come out quite pretty, and I've enjoyed Romanifiyng them.

Shameless plugUltramarines

those are looking pretty nice, vazzy. i thought of doing ultramarines, but for some reason, it always felt like going back to basics if i chose the poster-chapter for marines. that and there's just too many of them where i live and i dont want to get confused with another guy's army.

lol, no doubt; 8000pts of models is alot to paint up. but picking 4 different color schemes means at least you have a variety of schemes so you dont get tired of any single color scheme.

Well, if it is the rules that will tip the balance for you, I guess you're in luck! The next book is rumored to cover Isstavan V so there will be NL, AL, IW and of course WBs. That's on top of the Isstavan III Legions that we aready have (WE, SoH, EC and DG). So if Traitor Legions is what you're looking for then when the next book comes out in 2013 (Massacre) as it is rumored, you can make an informed descision pretty soon! (You may need to wait the TSs though)... :)

I'm doing EC post Istvaan V... It'll be fun to have commanding officers/the smaller part of the legion decked out in crazy pastels while most of the grunts are still in the standard scheme. Phoenix Guard can be cool to do, they're sort of like corrupted Custodes. I will make a Solomon Demeter as he appeared in Fulgrim though; he's one of my favorite HH characters.

I was torn between two other choices, both with mostly black color schemes: if I had infinite resources and bitz, I would make a very bionic Iron Hands army, but that's not something you half-do :/.

or i would have done Dark Angels.

Legio XI.

After 15 years of playing a fandex Great Crusade-era army, I can finally field my legion in a semi-legal format without hearing the incessant whines of "cheese" or "broken" from the less imaginative elements of my local game groups.

It was particularly satisfying when I opened up a copy of Betrayal for the first time, to find so many units and options were nearly identical (almost disturbingly so...) between what I had cooked up for myself and what GW/Forge World defined as "Official".

If Forge World pops out some good helmets for the Praetor Pattern Ultramarines armor, I might consider doing up some converted out of other parts. Otherwise, eh. Most 30K armor doesn't get me going. The designs are too inefficient looking, lol. I have serious problems with exposed cabling on the front of the torso, or worse, armor plating that prevents bending at the waist. Serious design flaws there.

I still have to make up my mind about it. My preference is going towards the Raven Guard at the moment, but it would be a MKVI dedicated army, while I'd still want to create a big meat-grinder of shooty infantry and heavy weapons in MKII armours to represent the Ultramarines during the Crusade.

I will decide when the desired books come out.
