JotWW and Sniping

So, I played a game last week and tried to snipe out a chaplain from a squad. My opponent proceeded to make his saves, and failed quite a bit, however, he rolled for other members of his squad and NOT for his chaplain. I asked why*. His reason was that in 6e, templates can only target the exact model they strike if its a bombardment or some such... I didn't contest it b/c I didn't care - I wiped out more than 8 SM models with one JotWW cast, so I was happy - but I still want to know if sniping has been eliminated in 6e?

* - Disclaimer, I don't game much.. mostly I work and when I don't, I paint.. so I'm usually always fuzzy on rule application in the heat of the moment.

He was lying or just wrong.

JotWW is not a template first of all and it has no problems sniping out specific models in a unit.

Well, that was my understanding regarding sniping in 5th, though I believe it was debated here once before that JotWW IS a template of a hairline width and 24" length. Happily proven wrong for the sake of sniping, but just figure I'd get a clear yay or nay.

jotww is not a template or a beam and can snipe specific models. Support:

Q: Does Jaws of the World Wolf allow the Rune Priest to target specific

models within squads? (p37)

A: Yes.

Q: Is the Jaws of the World Wolf psychic power a beam?(p37)

A: No.

And from the BGB regarding Look Out, Sir:

"when a Wound is allocated to one of your characters, and there is another model from the same unit within 6", hes allowed a Look Out, Sir attempt."

jotww does not allocate anything, models touched simply take a test or get removed therefore no LO,S. Makes for one sad cron overlord eh.

Oh riiight.. yeah, he said something about how Beam weapons changed the rules.. I wonder what he was referring to....

Yup, probably not a cheater but definitely doesn't know what he's talking about. If you have a capable phone, get a copy of the the FAQ on there or you can just print up a copy should it ever be an issue again.

Jaws of the World Wolf is just as brutal as it seems. All the armies I regularly play have a 3 or lower Initiative and it has lead to very staggered formations. Claiming IC's with 3+ wounds is one of the most gratifying things I have done with a RP. I feet bad, but it feels so good.
