Hi guys

so my Pre Heresy army is a go, ive been weak and sunk £350 on the stuff i plant to build and paint from forge world.. yes i fecking know im weak... so very weak.

so i need help picking a Legion as i cant for the life of me pick one. First here is a list of the Legiosn i know i dont want to do and the reason why.

Dark Angels - black power armour.

Iron Fists - black power armour

Raven Guard - Black power armour

Imperial Fist - just sold a small fist army, dont want to that yellow again :teehee:

Space Wolves - i have a 40k Wolves army so dont see the point doing another.

Alpha Legion - no just no.. and a few more no's added to that.

Emperors Children - there like the smurfs on the heresy theme, so many armys.

World Eaters - ive ordered lots of bolter armed marines not assault... plus almost heresy smurfs.

Death Guard - they wear mrk 3 armour and ive ordered mrk 4, so there out.

Ok so there the ones i dont like the idear of doing, here is a list of whats left and what i like about them.

Blood Angels - very keen on this legion, i like red and i like them alot

Sons of Horus - nice legion, intresting to do, loyal or traitor with a switch of hq, but could be heresy smurfs.

Ultramarines - for heresy not many around

White Scares - id be interested in white power armour, but will be no bikes at all.

Salamanders - not bad, green is a nice colour, lots of bolters

Night Lords - cool legion, skull face free hand might be nice to do

Iron Warriors - speed painters dream.

Thousand Sons - red and white, could be a nice match for my wolves

Word Bearers - Not sure sort of on the fence with this one.

so please read and then give me your view and why.

Mark IV armour was predominantly in the hands of traitors so perhaps that should guide you (although most Legions had some suits). Death Guard wore them as well, Mark III armour is used for Boarding actions and Seige work, it's not the entire Legion that is equipped with it.

A lot depends if you want to be a Loyalist or Traitor.

My Choices (based on your preferences):

Traitor:

Word Bearers: Red Armour and Mark IV = win?

Iron Warriors: Some interesting gritty schemes and mechanicus stuff. Easy to paint.

Loyalist:

Ultramarines - "Know No Fear". Enough said. Besides, I've hardly EVER seen an Ultramarine army in 15 years of gaming. They are MUCH rarer than people think. It amuses me no end when people nerd rage at a phantom army.

Blood Angels: you like red.

So....I'd say Word Bearers are the winners. Red armour - check. Mark IV armour - check. Chaos worshipping lunies responsible for the Grimdark 40K we know and love - check.

Mark V is a catch-all for all unofficial Armor Marks that were developed just before, during and maybe even a little after the Heresy. Both Loyalists and Traitors made use of the Mark V. The Ultramarines had their Praetor-variant I believe it was called. Everyone else had armor with simplified electronics that was fashioned from strengthened plates of metal bolted together. That's why the Mk V sold by Forgeworld has all of those domey-bubble-thingamajigs all over. Those are the heads of the bolts.
Personally I'd go for the Blood Angels from what you have said. The combination of your forgeworld parts and some of the kits that are available for 40k will make some really fun figures to use. Lots of fluff and sounds like you enjoy painting red. Win win all round mate go with what your gut seems to be telling you.

To be fair, Sons of Horus, WE, and EC are all smurf armies because they just happened to have been in the first book. Just watch. When the next book comes out, everyone will be clamoring for Salamanders, Night Lords, and Iron Hands.

As for my vote, I'd say Sons of Horus or pre-heresy Word Bearers. I know a lot of people don't like the grey, but I've found the trick is in adding color through the etchings and scripture they cover their armor in.

thanks guys

i think i will be going Blood Angels

rather up set that i have put in my order only to look at forge world and see that they are selling 3 mrk 4 squads with bolters and 2 commmand upgrade sets for £160, id have ordered one of them :P

oh well
