Color used for Sons of Horus

I've also been looking for a colour to match Forge Worlds studio army, but without much luck.

At first glance, Incubi Darkness looks like it could be a close match, but I think it might be too blue.

Vallejo Air USAF Green looks good too, but I can't find any examples of this paint used on models.

Same with Dark Seagreen from the Vallejo Model line.

I use a 1:1 mix of Sybarite green and Dark Reaper for the core green. On top of that I apply two washes of Coelia Greenshade. Simple, quick and easy. It was actually inspired by esinhorn's method, using vallejo paints. But being me, and preferring GW ones, I did a lot of colour matching with the new paints and ended up with the stated colour mix.

that FW one is too complicated; october's WD had a simpler one.

1) Basecoat: Mechanicus Standard Grey.

2) Drybrush: Necron Compound. [use this on edges you want lighter]

3) Wash: Coelia Greenshade. [they said waywatcher green, but that's a glaze, not a wash; guessing an oopsie, since that makes it neon green; i tried it.]

the wife's been using this for hers and it looks like the books better.

here's the other 3:

Emperor's Children (im doing these guys, but i found genestealer purple too bright and pale, making it pink. use Xereus Purple for the book look. or if you have army painter, use Alien Purple, it's a color match to Xereus Purple and comes in a spray can also.

1) Basecoat: Genestealer Purple (Xereus Purple)

2) Wash: Druchii Violet

3) Layer: Genestealer Purple (Xereus Purple)

Death Guard:

1) Basecoat: Zandri Dust

2) Layer: Ushabti Bone

3) Wash: Seraphim Sepia

World Eaters:

White Armor:

1)Basecoat: Ceramite White

2) Wash: Nuln Oil

3) Layer: White Scar

Blue Armor:

1) Basecoat: Kantor Blue

2) Layer: Teclis Blue

3) Wash: Nuln Oil

I painted mine

Base: Incubi darkness

Main: Sybarte Green

Wash:Colelia Greenshade

than a lite coat of the Syarte

a 1to1 wash of beil Tan wash and water

highlight with Hellion Green

It looks really good but its more of the old color than the one FW Shows in the Book

I'll say that Forgeworld Painting guide is a bit... complicated. And I'm a lazy painter. I like a base color, maybe a shade or a wash, and a highlight. Anything else- mixing colors for a particular shade or tone, multiple layers of paint with a little difference between layers... ugh. That's what I do for a character or special project model. Trying to do an entire army like that? No thanks.

The recipes presented in this thread seem way, way better. Has anyone used P3 Paints by chance?

I really think the Iosian Green could work with a wash of some kind of green wash/ink over it. Or maybe a 50/50 mix of Iosian Green/Thornwood Grey? Breaks my lazy painter rule though. I do like esinhorn's palette. Thumbs up!

Here is USMC tankcrew with Coliea Greenshade wash

Although I've never used either the paint or the wash, this method sounds like the one I'd use, given the results.

3) Wash: Coelia Greenshade. [they said waywatcher green, but that's a glaze, not a wash; guessing an oopsie, since that makes it neon green; i tried it.]

I confirm this. I used that scheme (with waywatcher) for a CSM unit and I got a very different effect from Sons of Horus green. Luckily they now look so nurgle styled they can be easily used as Plague Marines :D

I'm glad I didn't test it on HH minis... I would have been very disappointed.

Technically speaking the green is suppose to be Metallic sea green. Many people dont do the Metallic bit because its so difficult to do. Also the color itself is in question as to what shade or sea green. It seems to change over time from almost completely grey to a dark (Ork)green in some illustrations. Artistic interpretation and each to there own.
