Tiger9gamer
Alright, I got interested in the Horus heresy HQ, and I wanted to know how much they affect the game and how good the different options are. Most interested in the Legion preator unit and the counsels, The champion and siege breaker. Brother Amarel
I've been using an EC Legion Praetor with Paragon Blade, Digital Weapons, Sonic Shrieker, Artificer Armour and Iron Halo on a Bike. He's been an absolute beast, thus far - taking out units of Terminators and being unafraid of pretty much any opposing HQ (AP2 at Initiative is so good). Allowing the use of Pride of the Legion to allow for easing into HH lists (with Vet Tacs) is a nice bonus. With regards to Counsels, I've only used the Librarian and he's not so much different to the CSM Sorc, so there's not a huge amount for me to add there. Tiger9gamer
So is the preator that good? also how many points would that be? Also, is Cataphractii armor a good choice for both him and the command squad? also, what makes the Legion Champion special? Jim AMM realgenius
also, what makes the Legion Champion special? WS6 and Master Crafted Weapon makes him efficient with his attacks. Tiger9gamer
WS6? that's the level a regular vanilla captain has :/ if that makes him special, what are the other counsul's weapon skill? Consuls are 5. Praetors are Captain level, Consuls are one lower, and comparatively cheaper. Tiger9gamer
oh, okay then. can the champion take a paragon blade too? that thing seems awsome. also; is the mortis BS5? Brother Amarel
A kitted Praetor is relatively expensive, around the cost of a kitted out SM Tac squad, and only he can take the Paragon Blade. The base Centurion is a cheap character (Attack Bike territory) but to make him a Consul of any type it's another 50%+ on top, but they all come with special rules and most with built in equipment. Jim AMM realgenius
also; is the mortis BS5? Not sure exactly what you're referring to, but all the things that sound like that are BS5. Tiger9gamer
whoops! ment the dual plasma pistol guy :o and is chainfire as nasty as they say? Edit!: the moritat is who I ment X-X Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267111-horus-heresy-hq/#findComment-3253561 Share on other sites
SillyDreadnought
The moritat is, theoretically, one of the nastier characters available to the Legion. He suffers due to pistol range though, and he can never be your mandatory HQ. And a Praetor, built economically, is about the same cost as a naked Grey Knight Brother Captain. With everything in the Legion list, it's really easy to splurge all your points on awesome things, but it leaves you little left over for your essential things, like more boots on the ground. He suffers due to pistol range though, and he can never be your mandatory HQ. He also can only join Destroyer squads, so that makes him even more pricey. And don't forget that when chain fire fails you're facing two overheat saves. Usually he passes, but... I faced a Moritat once and he hit twice, failed an overheat save and missed with his bonus shots. Then me got gunned down by a Kheres assault cannon wielding Contemptor. He's so talked about, he usually becomes the first target, taking things like Basilisk, Medusa and Conversion Beamer shots. No fun. Tiger9gamer
I see. so would it be wise to get the important things first then start adding the awesome parts to it? say, buy captain and 2 troop choices first, then start to get more guys? also would it be wise to deepstrike just the moritat behind enemy lines and shoot at a big target? SillyDreadnought
Not really. It's a waste of almost 120 points and a HQ slot for a suicide unit. There are much better options for killing enemy backfield units ( such as the Orbital Assault rite of war, which gives you access to mass drop pods and deep striking terminators, for example ) than a lone hero, no matter how cool that image is.
