Salamanders that aren't snot green

Recommended Posts

Hello, one of these greens may be of use to you. I was surprised by how many muted/dusty greens the new Citadel line added.

The reason they changed the name is because they completely revamped their paint line and the new formula meant certain colors would not be perfect matches. This way, people won't buy their new Ultramarine Blue (now called Altdorf Guard Blue) and get angry when it's slightly more red hued than the old Ultramarine Blue.

One thing I should add is that I would recommend not buying your paint online unless you are absolutely sure that is the color you want, because Games Workshop's color splotches are a bit inaccurate. For a much closer match, look not at the splotch but at the color of the paint pot. Even better if you can do this in real life and open the pot to peek inside. Also keep in mind the paint will darken slightly when dry compared to its brighter color when wet.

Why oh why do they have to change the names of the paints every ruddy year!!!

That way it looks intentional when the shade changes (really, did your last bottle of Snot Green match the one you purchased before it?.......didn't think so). :D

I'd try a Vallejo Cayman Green 72.067. It's equal to old GW catachan green.

Funny you chose Ultramarine Blue, which is and was a color long before "Ultramarines" came around. That's why you can find ultramarine blue in most lines of paint. :D

Also, they can't Trademark(™) "Ultramarine Blue." However, they CAN trademark "Altdorf Guard Blue." At the point when Vallejo Game Color paints were almost the same colors ("Bloody Red" vs. GW "Blood Red," "Wolf Grey" vs. GW "Space Wolf Grey," etc.), GW certainly didn't want to make it any easier for the competition to copy their stuff.
