Jofus
I was hoping that someone with the How to Paint Ultramarines eBook wouldn't mind telling me what paints are used to do the veteran's helmets. The Sound of Machines
I don't know what they say mate, but I can't recommend Vallejo Foundation White enough! Give it a go!! Perhaps over a basecoat grey colour (like Fenris Grey?) latch66
You can't go wrong with Vallejo. But, I for white I use the GW Khemri Brown (I can't remember it's new color name) as a base coat and then P3 Morrow White. I've brushpainted and airbrushed this system with good results. S.k.i.t.t.l.e
This is the old GW colours and I got it from Les at Awesome Paint Job (which I believe he got from The Painting Corps): Codex Grey, Fortress Grey, Skull White. You could leave or add the FG as a shading colour or use a blue to shade. <Edit> Discovered that the new GW equivalent for Codex Grey is Dawnstone(Cold Grey in Vallejo Game Colour), Fortress Grey is Administratum (Stonewall Grey in Vallejo Game Colour). Hope this helps. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267193-quick-ultramarine-question/#findComment-3254322 Share on other sites
Kaedes Nex
I don't know if How to Paint Ultramarines is an actual thing, but I checked How to Paint Citadel Miniatures and How to Paint Space Marines and neither book explains how to paint Ultramarine veterans. The former only shows a Blood Angel and the latter only teaches you how to paint an Ultramarines tactical marine and a sergeant with no helmet. The other pages are pictures, how to paint vehicles, and how to paint non-adherent MEQ troops. Jofus
The Ultramarine one is an eBook. I can try the old colors from Skittle and the new equivalents and see which I like better. Edit: I just checked the GW website and saw they have a set for white. Celestra Grey, Nuln Oil, Ulthuan Grey, White Scar, Praxeti White. Don't know why I didn't check there first but it does look like it could give the results I am looking for. Jofus
I will give the new paint method a try first and see how I like it. It will probably be sometime after the new year because money is a little tight right now. I will be sure to post a picture of my test helm once it is finished. Chaeron
I'd generally suggest starting with a darker colour, perhaps a brown or khaki, and working up to white - otherwise you'll have to go through plenty of layers of white to get the effect you actually want! Unless you start with a white basecoat... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267193-quick-ultramarine-question/#findComment-3264079 Share on other sites
