Faceplate swap on dreadnought

And lo, there was a mighty dread of the aobr variety. In his slumbering electric dreams the towering mechanicus dreamed to serve no longer as member of flaccid ultramarine staleness, but to join that ancient brotherhood of dark angels forever! But forsooth, his regalia would not due! How could his form be made amenable to his new chapter?

Hey so like the verbal diarrhea above says, id like to change out the faceplate and kneepads on an abor dread for some from the ravenwing boxset and i was wondering, how easy or difficult is this? I was hoping to try it cause it might be an afforable option with some of the fw arms iv got for a mortis loadout. Any advice on smoothly achieving this goal?

RW sprue Sarcophagus and shin pads from normal Dread.

I sanded down the front of the sarcophagus till it was flat enougth for the RW one - then sand down the back of the new one until flat then simply glue it on and fill the gaps.

The shin pads are a little more difficult...

You need to carefully cut the old pads off to leave the pistons then glue the new pads over the top - fill as required and then paint.

Add a bit of DA bling and there you go :)

I would recommend NOT gluing the arms on as they can be swapped with the normal dreds weapon arms with a little alteration to the pin and holes giving you far more weapons options than the AoBR box set gives.

Edit: stupidly inserted wrong picture ;)

Pah! None of this careful nonsense  - I got a really sharp hobby knife and sliced off the front faceplate of the sarcophagus, filed it out and glued the new one in place. Shinpads I just pulled off, yes the little pistons came off, but they are easily gs'd back in!

New wip (without new shinpads as yet....or finished paintjob!)

A really sharp knife? NO THANKS. I got wire clippers and hacked off the face plate and shins. Then green stuffed the jagged gaps to make a smooth surface for the ven dread plates. Was one of the most enjoyable conversions I've done. Three separate times I thought I had gone too far and the model was unsalvageable. Azdiel was truly brought back from the brink.

There is tons of room for customization on the model and as Elmo said dont glue the arms. I did while in a rush to prepare for tournament and regret doing so.

Edit- I could see this thread becoming the home for some awesome dread conversions. Good stuff.

I used an exacto knife and a pair of clipper to chop off as much as possible, then filed down the rest. The face plate from the RW set fit on just right after that. I left the shin pads on, since I used the DA ones for my regular dreadnought.
