Warmaster

This audio drama is absolutely fantastic. It really gives us uncomparable insights on Horus, his thoughts on the Heresy, his brothers, plans and of course his title.

I wouldn't have considered it possible to pack THIS MUCH GOODNESS into a 9 minute audio. John French got Horus down so damn perfectly, I can only applaud him for this drama.

Listened to it - IMHO 9 min of first class crap

Horus sayin' Ro-bu-te you are so perfect - I wish I had you by my side + saying he wishes that he has loyalists over degenerates like Perturabo & Angron...no,thank you

but this is my opinion, I'm sure some people will like it...

Before this I wanted to obtain it. Now I'm not so sure.

Btw when I think about degenerate Primarchs Perturabo is not a name that springs to mind. Fulgrim and Angron however do.

:)

He only really slates Lorgar and Alpharius, he says the others he has little control over, he thinks Corax would of done a better job than Alpharius which surprised me as Corax was the only Primarch who really didn't get on with Horus. I like the "dagger in the back" the Warmaster talks about, I think that has something to do with Omegon.

I like that he's not all chaotic and understands the ebb and flow of the war and how his enemies are truly doing better than he suspected and that's because he's chosen the wrong allies.

It's really worth getting, I listened to it twice after the first time, so I could take in the full implications.

It is more a matter of Horus lamenting that all his supporters are "flawed and damaged" in one way or another. He considers them unreliable and knows that they don't understand him. What he says about Mortarion and Perturabo is that they understand that the war's course is slipping through the Traitor's grips, that they lost the initiative by failing at Calth, Signus etc.

Honestly, can you argue against it? The damages and flaws of Angron, Curze, Lorgar, Magnus, Perturabo and Fulgrim are obvious - if the Warmaster didn't realize that, he would be a moron who isn't qualified for his job at all. Heck, he is even aware of the internal struggle within the Alpha Legion, as it sounds.

Yes, he wishes Guilliman had joined his cause. Why wouldn't he? Guilliman has the power of logistics at his command. He obviously respects Roboute for his achievements, his wisdom and the strength to survive the massacre at Calth. I don't see what of that brings up a "no, thank you" on your end.

This is Horus as we haven't seen him in a long time. He's no degenerate madman, he's still the Warmaster and knows what he's doing, but is also aware of his plans not working out the way they should due to his brothers meddling with them. He does not regret his course, but he does regret that he didn't get the support of some loyalist legions instead.

But admit, the whole short story can be put into 2 sentences...+ this short story should be called "Warmaster - 9 minutes of bitching"

...but like I said, this is my opinion...

Yeah, the Corax > Alpharius bit sort of irked me, especially given the past fluff of the closeness between Horus and Alpharius. I guess this is another bullet into the foot of that tale, since it basically negates the knowledge that Alpharius' was utterly loyal to Horus and that Horus would know he could trust Alpharius in ways he could never have trusted Corax. Ahh well, sacrifices to the storyline.

So, considering is bitching?

In the grim darkness of the far future, all internalized musings are automatically considered bitching! ;)

No - but IMH(biased)O this was pure bitching and not "considering" , because he doesn't have anything to gain...

Actually in Deliverance Lost, after the escape of Corax and the council in his ship, Horus explained to Abaddon and Kor Phaeron that he trusted Alpharius but it's best to constantly keep an eye on him. My thought is that Horus felt the secret agenda of Alpharius but he related only to secretly acquiring power and resource, in few words to carve out a good position in the future Imperium.

Horus probably at one point made a comparison between his two brothers and while they acted more or less the same, the objectives for Corax were easy to comprehend while Alpharius was an enigma.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just got around to listening to the story. All in all it isn't saying much aside from the fact that Horus wishes his original plan had worked better...

The one thing that shocked me though: Roboute is pronounced Rowbooty? Freaking ROW-BOOTY?! Such a terrible name for one of the better Primarchs. :tu:
