Squark
Fenrisian wolves are generally used as cheep filler and an inexpensive fast moving annoyance. To get the most milage out of them, you're going to want a character with Saga of the Wolfkin, and a cyberwolf to lead the pack might not be a bad idea either. Also, they're good at catching bullets for Wolf Lords and Lone Wolves. helosv
Hello, I'd play them for the first time, last week, with a WGBL on wolf... Sure they catch the fire instead of the WGBL, but when they arrived in close combat, while the WGBL was in chalenge, they took care of the rest of the enemy... reducing them before my leader can finish is chalenge and come back in the main combat... Another thing, is that they can fix a pack in close combat, deniing them shooting against you ! And at 8 points it is given !!! In this case, they need the saga of the wolfkin to have I5 and strike first. Wgbl with the saga of the wolfkin means your opponent has something to fear, otherwise they are way too squishy. And don't think small... You can have 17 blood hungry puppies running through cover very quickly at you opponent with your character having another 2. beerbeard
A friend of mine runs a full pack with a cyberwolf and Canis. Causes a lot of damage, and can't be ignored. Just brutal on MEQ and GEQ. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267384-fen-wolves-are-good/#findComment-3258014 Share on other sites
Brom MKIV
I used them for awhile simply as ablative wounds for my thunderwolf lord. For me the biggest issue was their massive footprint. A unit of 15 terminators their not, yet they suck up the same oxygen and space. I reduced mine to 8-10 and found this more to my liking as a delivery system. That being said they also make great bubble wrap since everything else in the dex costs at least twice as much as they do. Ive actually been toying with bringing them back MSU style but without a babysitter to add LD and ATSKNF im afraid they might eat a few bolts and run. I will say that people dont like hearing 3 attacks init 5 though so they will soak fire and if in cover they are decently survivable for their cost. Chalx the grey
I have run a pack of 15 with a Thunderwolf Lord, and they are great. The Lord is fully kitted out with hammer, shield and saga of the Bear, taking names and killing big stuff. The wolves are there to soak up wounds really. They do an awesome job at that. AP2 fire goes to them (they can Look out sir!) and the Lord can usually into assault with his 3 wounds and kill. It's a 400 point unit though, but in my experience usually get the points back in style, and seeing CC HQs shy away from challenges with this guy is priceless. Haven't tested them against Grey Knights but nobody in the unit cares about Force weapons so I guess it would work well. Changing to saga of the wolfkin would be an option, but then the Lord would have to run away from dreadnoughts, stupid psyker wapons and other ID stuff that hits before he does. If you run him with and I5 weapon though, you may as well have the Wolfkin saga, specially if you play against a lot of marines. As an independent unit I'm not so sure about this guys... DanPesci
Last game i used 10, and just had them sat in my backfield, spread out. They stopped stuff being able to deep strike as easy, and mopped up 1 whole drop pod of marines and then end of a grey knight terminator pack (which my lone wolf amazingly butchered the rest of, grand master and all). For 80 points, i dont really care if they get shot at and run off...thats shooting not going into my long fangs or grey hunters. And if theres a handy building to hide them behind, all the better, as their potential charge range is pretty big for a nasty counter attack unit thats been kept out of LoS (not like they need to shoot anything!). Interesting. I have 10 wolves myself and plan on using them in the most effective way.
