Does your choice of legion relate to how you see yourself?

I've found that if the legion doesn't fit someone's personality, it usually fits what they want to be in some way. As a sort of release, or playing the other side.

I prefer Blood Angels, but I don't really know how well I fit with them, because while Sanguinius loves the Imperium, I am starting to hate the society I live in.

I suppose I share his hope for humanity though, and his vision to want to improve it. However, I tend to take the Night Haunter approach to how I think criminals should be dealt with. Like, I have a duel feeling on it. I believe in second chances and mercy and benevolence, but I believe that examples, gruesome, bloody, public examples, should be made out of those who don't accept the second chance. I am also paranoid.

Sometimes I have anger issues (so I guess that would fit in with the Flaw), but most of the time I tend to be benevolent. And my main philosophy and my main argument against when people say, "Well life isn't fair" is, "Life may not be fair, but shouldn't we try to make it?" (but not in the communist way. In the, "no exceptions" way).

Also, I call BS on the "they are plastic toys so no" excuse.

I started out as a spritely 12 year old collecting iron warriors. I enjoyed the scheme at the time and I liked their background. At the glorious age of 24 im a hate fuelled, bitter being thats enjoys knocking things down when im asked to. Im often asked of I actually like anything or anyone. To this I smile.

+1!

When I said in my earlier post that you can find elements of yourself in just about any legion I was thinking more along the lines of how Astrological symbology and tarot readings "fit" so often (from my pov, from being vague) and have for millenia. When we're considering 40k armies/legions/chapters/what have you, there's the added dimension of a person's choice in the mix, and such things will say something about them, particularly of course their preferences!

My choice of legions (DG and IW) doesn't reflect my personality (though I guess I have some of the IWs' snark), but it does reflect my view of whose hands it was to create the Imperium. It's those two legions that cracked the enemy's stronghold, allowing the others to pick off the less well-defended targets and claim all the glory. It also reflects my view of warfare - brutal, grinding, and dirty.

Character wise I'm a bit of an idealist. I stand up for what believe in and will fight my corner. I tend to come across to others as being quite direct and intimidating in debates and in.group work, but generally favour letting others go first and say their piece before speak so I know how best to approach the problem. If it is the case that I disagree with others over what to do, I can generally find some rt of opening to set out counter arguments, then suggest solutions. Naturally I'm not especially well loved for this, but unexpected conciliation from the idealist thatvhas forced the discussion sufficiently off track is more often than not something that others will snatch at, and ultimately furthers the ideals I work towards.

This probably makes me a bit of a Lorgar, but unexpected subtlety is also a feature of other primarchs too I guess though for the life of me I can't think of many.

In for about 12 years I played Word Bearers in 40k, but really felt I needed a new project to work on both in terms of modelling and also to get me a bhit out of my comfort zone on the battlefield. Currently I'm starting a Space Wolf force for 30k as I thought it was time.to be a bit more heroic.

World eaters -

I like there in you're face style but behind it all there's a code of honor and martial pride. The gladiatorial pits. Prove you're worth and show everyone what you're capability is. Close combat is a fine tuned art. The most skilled almost always wind. Guns are a different story.

Then again im like that in every game I ever played. In you're face. The warrior, samurai.. The attacker.

I see the idea behind the original question - many people are drawn to characters with whom they identify but then some like to use the opportunity to be the opposite of everything they value in real life just for fun because their aren't real world consequences.

I personally think that the above says everything that is to be said on the matter.

I play Ultramarines because it is what I have been playing for more than 12 years, and the original reason was "they are blue, and I like blue". Then I came to appreciate their "Courage and Honor" thingy.

I also play Sons of Horus, because I like their story of rise and fall. Other than that, I like their scheme, I love Abaddon, and I pretty much like horus as well, so Im good.

But no, I dont identify myself because I think i "fit" in the Legion. No one does. They are SPACE MARINES. SCIENCE FICTION SPACE MARINES. If something, I see people choosing a Legion because what they offer is something they will NEVER be: Vikings, murderers, monastic warriors, half machines, psychopaths, butcherers and so on.
