Son of Valhalla
Hey guys, I'm new here at the forum. I have this idea for a DIY chapter and was wondering if I could get some feedback from yall. Chapter Name: Emperor’s Templar Geneseed type: Pure Founded for Strategic Prognostication Founding: Unknown (The chapter was devastated and all records lost and all historians killed) Demeanor: Brothers in Battle Chapter Flaw: Pride In The Colors (This chapter will sacrifice anything to save the chapter banner) Chapter Characteristics: Fluid tactics. Chapter’s 1st on record Hero: Grand Master of the Order Titus Orkbane- This Chapter Master brought an end to an Ork Waaaaagh! During the campaign he was wounded many times yet still fought on. Ignoring his apothecary except when his wounds proved most urgent. His dedication is still admired by the marines of his chapter. Homeworld: Medieval, Jungle, (need a name) Combat Doctrine: Close Combat Specialty Restrictions: 10th Company is a specialty company of veterans. Special Equipment: Blessed Wargear/ Rare Weaponry Chapter Belief: Honor The Ancestors Strength: Nominal (1,000) Chapter Allies: Space Wolves ( After many campaigns together) Imperial Guard Navigators Adeptus Mechanius Chapter Enemies: Orks Chaos Marines ( Black Legion) Tyranids Recruitment: The Emperor’s Templar recruits from their home world. The Order has "distant rule" over their home world allowing Barons and Lords to rule over the people. The Lords and Barons will occasionally have armed conflicts between themselves every few years. Only when the wars and battles cause great amounts of blood shed do the space marines interfere. This is when the Crimson Order takes recruits. If there are no wars within a recruitment period then the recruits come from a series of trails. ( have not decided on this yet.) Organization: The Emperor’s Templar are organized into 10 Brotherhoods. Each Brotherhood is consisted of 100 Marines, broken into 10 Knight Squads of 10 Marines each with a Knight Sargent to lead the marines. The 3rd, 4th, and 5th Brotherhoods consist of “Battle Brotherhoods” which are Marines equipped with Bolters and Power Armor which have been blessed by the chapter’s Chaplains. The 6th, 7th, and 8th Brotherhoods are reserve Brotherhoods and consist of Brother Knights also. The 9th Brotherhood is the chapter’s Scout Brotherhood. Scouts must prove themselves worthy in combat to wear the Order Cross before they can join their Brother- Knights in the battle. The 2nd Brotherhood is one of the chapter’s elite Brotherhoods and consists of “Paladins”. Once Brother-Knights have proven their devotion to their chapter, and their ability to fight chaos during battle, will they be given the chance to join the ranks of the Paladins. The 1st Brotherhood, The Emperor’s Order is made up of the Chapter’s most elite Knights who prove their prowess against every foe imaginable. To be inducted into the Emperor’s Order is to learn all of the secrets of the Chapter. The 10th Brotherhood is a secret known only to the Emperor’s Templar’s elite and to the Emperor himself. They are known as simply “The Seekers.” After a number of years in the 1st brotherhood veteran marines who upon learning of the chapters darkest secrets volunteer to join The Seekers. History: Still working on this. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267529-emperors-templars/ Share on other sites
Messor
This sounds really interesting so far. Now between the Chapter's dark secret, and the lost records I have to wonder if a)their records were lost, or b)members of the chapter destroyed them to hide something. From what you have right now though, I'm inclined to put them under the label "Suspiciously Dark Angel". I hope in your history there'll be some healthy detailing of the tragedy that erased their history. The idea of a secret company is a really nice addition. Are they hidden/kept separated from the rest of the Chapter, or is their purpose and operation simply unknown to their Brothers? The unique naming conventions are also fun. Looking forward to more of these guys, especially to see 'em in color. I'm guessing some of this was built using the rites of battle book? Nicili
Welcome to the forum! A few points to think about: 1. You mention that the chapter was devastated and all historians killed. This would include Librarians, as they keep records/history of the chapter. You could limit yourself by not including them (Death of old Librarians causes no one to train new Lexicaniums, so there is no cycle/stream of new Librarians). 2. You mention that the 10th brotherhood secret is only known to the Emperor's Templar elite and the Emperor himself, which seems a bit...grandiose. It reminds me of the secret of the Dark Angels, but they were a legion, not a chapter. I would make this more in reference to "secret known only to the Emperor's Templar elite and high ranking members of the Administratum". 3. I think Emperor's Templar is a bit generic of a name. I think Templar does fit you chapter, with the Paladins and seekers, etc. I think maybe just experiment with some adjectives and see if you find something a bit more unique/true to your DIY feel. Hopefully I didn't offend you, just trying to help! ;) Remember to take everything with a grain of salt. Also, there are some great resources here that can help you flesh out your DIY chapter ideas, so when you get a chance, look at those. Looking forward to see more! Messor
On the second point, Nicili I think he was going for more of a 'known only to God and himself' thing with that line, rather than that the Emperor actually knows the secret. Could be wrong, though XD Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267529-emperors-templars/#findComment-3258692 Share on other sites
Son of Valhalla
On the second point, Nicili I think he was going for more of a 'known only to God and himself' thing with that line, rather than that the Emperor actually knows the secret. Could be wrong, though XD Yes I was going for that expression xD and as to 10th company it is kept hidden away from the rest of the chapter. Not sure yet on how this will be done. Still reading and trying to get all my notes together. Their history will probably be pretty long. I did use the rites of battle set up. Thanks the awesome insight! Nicili- Awesome Advice! I like the idea of no librarians. Should something take its place? War Angel
You're chapter flaw sounds interesting, but it also seems like something that wouldn't just be known, they would have to first experiance it. I think a short peice on this would be interesting. As for the tenth company's secret, I'm not so sure it would be important for many people out side of the chapter to know. Why would the emperor know? Except maybe because he's the firkin emperor, but we wouldn't really know what he knows. Why would some pencil pusher in the admin know? I think the knowledge would only ever be shared with people their fighting alongside from time to time, and that's a maybe. But like you said, keeping it away from the rest of the chapter makes sense. I like what you've got, can't wait to see more of it come to light Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267529-emperors-templars/#findComment-3259267 Share on other sites
