keeblerartillery
Hey all! I've been reading here for awhile and I was looking for some help building my army list. Here's what I have so far: Unit Points 1500 HQ 200 Librarian Might, Warp, Shroud Warding Stave Troops Strike Squad x 10 250 2 Psycannon Psybolt Justicar w/ Hammer Strike Squad x 10 250 2 Psycannon Psybolt Justicar w/ Hammer Strike Squad x 10 240 2 Psycannon Psybolt Heavy Support Dreadnought 135 TL autocannon TL autocannon Psybolt Dreadnought 135 TL autocannon TL autocannon Psybolt Purgation 290 4 x Psycannon Psybolt Razorback TL Lascannon Hunter-Killer I was thinking of essentially running a gun line-like army with the librarian giving cover saves to the dreads and purgs in the razorback. Please let me know what you think! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267561-new-to-gk/ Share on other sites
thade
Hi, Keebler. Welcome to the boards. ;) It's against board policy to post individual points cost for each upgrade/facet of a given unit choice; full points cost per unit is okay, but no more detail than that. As per your list, it looks like a fine place to start; well balanced, no glaring weaknesses, and a good amount of stuff to play with. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267561-new-to-gk/#findComment-3259545 Share on other sites
keeblerartillery
Hey thanks man! I think I'll be facing mostly necrons and chaos, do you think I'll be able to handle the flyers without a stormraven? Gentlemanloser
I think you should proxy as much as you can before making any purchases. try the army out, get a feel for what you like and don't like. or just purchase mini's becuase you like the mini, and work from there. thade
I think you should proxy as much as you can before making any purchases. try the army out, get a feel for what you like and don't like. or just purchase mini's becuase you like the mini, and work from there. This advice, right here, is *awesome*. Take it to heart. This hobby is expensive and whatever army you pick up will be inches from your face for months and months as you paint each model. :) Make sure the models you settle on are ones you enjoy painting, or you will grow to hate it. <3 If any of your friends have more than one army, see if they'll give you a few tutorials; bonus if one of the armies is GK. If you're already sold on GK because you think they're awesome, you're probably already sold. Honestly, I bought a whole ton of space marines before I really knew how the game worked just because I thought they were awesome. (I blame Dawn of War.) Proxying before buying can only be good for you though. :( ADDENDUM: With regard to your question, flyers are hard for virtually everybody to deal with right now (unless I've missed an update of some kind) as only specialized units are designed to deal with them. That said, spamming them with Psycannons isn't nearly hopeless, and ignoring them in favor of objectives - while rough at times - can also be effective. I don't see a lot of flyers; the one game I did play flyers against, I tore them apart in melee when they stopped to deposit their cargo. Not something that will come up often, but it was very satisfying. spartan249
You most definitely will not be able to handle Heldrakes with that list. Given optimal conditions (All your guys alive), all your psycannon shots will net ~6 hits on the Heldrake, followed by 1, maybe 2 results (either glancing or penetrating) from all your infantry firing at it. Even augmented by the mortis dreads, you're getting 1 more result on average, meaning it took your entire army shooting at the heldrake to neutralize it. This is all assuming the heldrake does not vaporize a squad coming in and goes into range of every model you have on the board. And that's 1 Heldrake. Emperor forbid that 2 of them show up, which means you'll basically have to choose between being roasted by fliers while desperately trying to kill ground forces ASAP, or you take 2 turns at the least trying to shoot down the Heldrakes while the rest of the army does what they're doing. Necrons are a bit more manageable as their planes are affected by Psybolt Storm Bolters and are much less lethal to PAGKs. keeblerartillery
Yea, I wasn't looking forward to playing moneyhammer. Right now I have a squad of terms, a dread and a 10 man SS. Was trying to build a list around that but still wanted to be somewhat competitive. Thanks for the advice guys.
