Great Crusade Era Space Wolves - Opinions wanted

I've been stockpiling FW armor sets in anticipation of their HH release. Now that Betrayal has been out a while(don't own it, but it's currently under the Xmas tree...don't ask me how I know) some problems have arisen that I could use some advice and opinions on.

First and foremost...weapons load outs. We won't be seeing a book featuring the Vlka Fenryka for, at least, another year...probably. The dropsite massacre is definitely next, but at 114 USD I don't think FW has any plans to churn books out in quick succession so the razing of Prospero is most likely a ways off. Until then, those of us that want to do PH SWs have to use the Legion list in Betrayal. The problem is that you can only take either a squad with bolters or a squad with BP/CCW. I'd like to think that FW will give us our Bolter/BP/CCW set up, but that doesn't help us now.

I have a problem. My problem is that I love modeling my warriors with Bolters and chain axes. I've already put together quite a few models in this config. They're all pinned so tearing off arms isn't out of the question, but it's not really something I want to do. Do you guys think this is acceptable? I ordinarily obey WYSIWYG, but would anyone here balk at the idea of their opponent fielding a twenty man squad of BP/CCW marines that are modeled with Bolters instead of BPs? How about the chain axes? Apparently, only the World Eaters can equip them right now.

Another question: I'm looking for resources for deciding which Great Company to do. My first instinct is Tra as it is the most fleshed out. I've read the short story in...was it Age of Darkness?...with Bulveye's(sp) GC, but I can't remember their designation off the top of my head...was it the 13th? Anyone know of other lore I might not be aware of? Help would be greatly appreciated.

Yet another question: Anyone try modeling their leather masks? I'm having trouble visualizing them in my head based on Abnett's descriptions. A cursory Google search yielded these...which sort of remind me of them, but lacking the embellishment that Abnett described. Masks Here

And my last and least pressing question: has anyone here used the Hasslefree miniatures celtic knotwork decal sheet? Decals Here I'm mainly curious about scale. I'd be using them on bare faces and possibly for green stuff templates to embellish armor.

With this I'd happily play an opponent who had them modeled as such - if you were doing BP/CCW and Bolter/CCW in the same unit there'd be problems, as long as you let you opponent know at the start then I don't see a problem outside of tournies.

With this - I've got the book and yes (at least until they say otherwise) only World Eaters can carry chain axes, it's one of the ways to show their brutality...

I'd suggest the various Horus Heresy books (especially obviously Prospero Burns and A Thousand Sons, the short stories are quite good otherwise the HH sub here is quite useful - and yes Bulveye's was the 13th Company (he was in command of 99% of the true wulfen).

I haven't tried them but they look great and imo. if you managed it then I'm sure they'd add a ton of character (plus it would make each model unique).

Again I haven't used them, or seen them tbh. much as they do look very nice, and would be perfect to use as templates for GS knotwork.

I hope this helps - all my replies are in red

I have the decal sheets, but have only used a set of the tribal tatoos on my Gothi. They are a continuous sheet, meaning each transfer has to be cut out and trimmed close to the image to reduce the carrier film. The they reacted well to Walthers Solvaset, the strongest decal setting solution out there. MicroSol & Set should do fine too.

I'm working on how to do a mask for my planned Wolf Lord. I don't know how I'm going to make it yet, either green stuff or put of some lead modeling foil, but I'll figure it out.

In your legion tacticals (the 20-man) you can pay per model to give the squad an additional CCW, rather than trading out the bolter for it.

This.

And if you wanted to use the World Eaters list to represent SWs until we get an official one... I dont think thatll be a problem for most people.

I also personally wouldnt go in for the leather masks, but thats a matter of personal taste.
