saffo
I was trying to find a cheap way to get the models I need for power axes for my DCA squad and the crusaders to boot. I came across these models and would certainly make sure they were based on a round base. I am also going to mod the shields for the crusaders so they are not chaos emblems. DCA: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/...Id=prod1500396a Crusaders: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/...dId=prod1040519 or http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/...Id=prod1500501a What are your thoughts and what more do you think I would need to do to make these viable for a 40k tournament? Thanks! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267643-alternate-models-for-dca-and-crusaders/ Share on other sites
thade
I like the Dunlending Warriors...the Warriors of Chaos have Chaos markings all over them though, which won't do for an Imperial Force. :) Unless you're going for traitors, of course. Lots of conversion work there otherwise. I caution you against using Dwarves for DCA or...anything, if only because of the incredible amount of overhead involved with Dwarves in 40k. (I.E. they explicitly do not exist and were allegedly retcon'd out of existence.) But, at the end of the day, it's your army. If you think you'd enjoy painting them and they'd fit your style, don't hold back. Brother Maikel
I've used "repentant" Chaos Warriors with GKT heads as Crusaders before. The Dunlending Warriors also look like they'd work pretty well, with suitable Inquisition heraldry attached. For DCA the Dark Eldar Wyches are pretty easy to convert. Each one comes with a knife or sword, and the pistols aren't hard to replace with a cut-down GK falchion, force sword, or even halberd (for an axe/spear). The Chaos Warriors box also comes with a couple of axes & maces/mauls that can be "redeemed" for the Imperium. http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/...dId=prod900152a Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267643-alternate-models-for-dca-and-crusaders/#findComment-3259804 Share on other sites
saffo
I also think the DCA have "two power weapons" and the dwarves only have the 1 axe. However, the DCA model itself has one of the models with only 1 power weapon. I also saw some elf fantasy models that were cheaper than DCA and "outside the box" that might work. Here is a more human DCA option: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/...Id=prod1500370a Fits better with the Dunlending guys. Kenderleech
The dwarf warrior box has enough bodies to make 16 guys. 4 left hand axes, 8 right hand mauls, about 20 right hand axes and about 30 shields Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267643-alternate-models-for-dca-and-crusaders/#findComment-3260049 Share on other sites
Zaph
I made my DCAs from DE Wyches with Pig Iron heads: http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e235/galootje/Grey%20Knights/20121204_135248.jpg As for crusaders: http://www.ebay.nl/itm/321034092608?ssPage...984.m1497.l2648 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267643-alternate-models-for-dca-and-crusaders/#findComment-3260521 Share on other sites

Brother Bobert
In 5th I was running mostly DCA and Crusaders for my troops. I ended up using Wyches converted to two ccws, removed all the spikes, deldar symbols, and pointy ears. For my Crusaders I use Easterlings with the =][= added to the sheilds and the helmets shaved down to look normal. Teufel55
I am using these with conversion to 1 axe and 1 sword. I like the female aspect of DCA. Zeratul29
Actually, in the 6th edition rulebook, it references squats as an abhuman race, so you could get away with using dwarves as your crusaders, just be ready to open the rule book to page 405 to show them :D I'm using chaos dwarfs with axes and shields as my crusaders Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267643-alternate-models-for-dca-and-crusaders/#findComment-3262006 Share on other sites
