Jolemai
If you were to be having an Apocalypse game of say 5k-10k points with maybe three of four Super Heavies on the field, what would you put in a singular Drop Pod? Dreadnought? Death Company? Sternguard with Combi-Weapons? Other?
Calnus
Quad-melta honor guard. Sternguard with 4 combi-meltas for around 10-20pts less, but you only get one shot.
Ushtarador
10x Sternguard, 2xmelta, 8x combimelta. Drop in, kill 2 superheavies, die
Sinful eyes
I would use Furioso or DC dreadnought in a Lucious pattern drop pod. With the new 6th ed updates, we can now take it (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/i/IA2update28AUG.pdf). A dread with blood talons assaulting turn one? Yes please. I would have to agree with this. For only a few points more you can have your Dreads on the assault in T1. Why would you want to take anything else? Jolemai
Thanks for the replies, I really like the idea of "upgrading" the pod to a Lucius variant and having a Furioso assaulting out of it. While the idea of Honour Guard could work, I think I prefer them to deep strike with that configuration. As for the Sternguard, lets just say that they are not one of my best performing units (read: they like to miss their melta shots). You don't advise having them half Melta and half Plasma/Flamer? DominicJ
I don't approve of using vets as suicide units. I also don't approve of brocolly....
Leonaides
It's apocalypse - they're all suicide units! I'd go for sternguard tbh, a furioso will only kill a single infantry unit...
Jolemai
Unless you give it dual fists and charge a Super Heavy with it.
Ushtarador
You don't advise having them half Melta and half Plasma/Flamer? Well, usually yes. But its apoc, they want to kill vehicles not infantry :cuss
