Gawain Veteris
Hey Brothers. Some of you may have seen my heresy era armour blog on here, but the original purpose of my heresy armour method was to make a legion army of my own. I love most of the legions but my two favourites are without doubt Luna Wolves and Emperor's Children. I wondered if you guys could help me choose between them for my army project? Luna Wolves: I don't need to tell any of you, I'm sure, that these guys have a lot of coverage in the H.H series. Accordingly there are some very strong characters there. The Mournival are a massive draw to this legion of course, and I'd make them all, and Horus if I chose LW in the end. Both projects would be early-late crusade so I'd probably have a high proportion of MKII (favourite armour mark). I'd probably model them around Ullanor conquest. The paint scheme would be 'False Gods' style, so chalky off-white with red and black details. I'd use a lot of solid-shot weaponry and lascannons. Emperor's Children: What can I say. Of all the legions I think I identify with this one the most. The ability to use the aquilla also gives me a little more flexibility with modelling. These guys are in my mind the traitor ultramarine type legion. One which follows the legion organisation to the letter (unless it doesn't work). These would be modelled for Istvaan III disaster. I'd make Tarvits and Lucius as the commanders. I hear Fulgrim is on the way out anyway. I'd make heavy use of Plasma Weaponry with these. So let me know what you think. I'd be grateful for your opinions and suggestions. Maybe you think another Legion would be a better project? Which is your favourite of these two and why? Let me know :P GV Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267850-emperors-children-or-luna-wolves/ Share on other sites
Olis
My opinion on the matter, after hearing your considered view points, is to go for the Emperor's Children. Personally, knowing your GS-fu, I can just imagine certain Emperor's Children embellishments being recreated by yourself quite well indeed. Also, having them as Isstvan III participants means you can field Tarvitz and Rylanor, in suitably battered gear. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267850-emperors-children-or-luna-wolves/#findComment-3262198 Share on other sites
Captain Semper
I'm also familiar with your skill, and I'll suggest the opposite option! :D The main reason for that is Abaddon and Loken - the two heavily important figures of the 40k lore - especially the former! Abaddon is the man and no matter the machinations of Lorgar and the crazyness of Anrgron, the Heresy happened because of the Luna Wolves (Sons of Horus)! Although I'd seriously urge you to go for the sea-green shade on the grounds that I really like how many different individual takes there are on this color scheme! Mournival FTW! :D So after this very objective comment, I'll let you decide - franky your statement that you identify with the Emperor's Children the most sounds too strong to ignore so maybe just because of that you should embrace the III Legion. GrandMagnus
Luna wolves all the way haha. Just as Captain Semper said, it IS the legion responsible for the start of the heresy, but also one of the most important during the great crusade. And the modeling posibilities and characters are great, I bet you can make wonders of them (Im trying to add that I hate the emperors children haha Oh well, seems like I said it :D ). Choose wisely brother haha. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267850-emperors-children-or-luna-wolves/#findComment-3262632 Share on other sites
Sun Reaver
Based of your post, I say go for the Emperor's Children. If you still can't decide, flip a coin. If you don't like the result, pick the opposite one. Then you'll know which one you really wanted to do. Well it works for me anyways. Good Luck! Olis
Ah, the trick with flipping coins is to never look at the result. Just by performing the flip you'll know which option you are truly wishing for. As much as I love the Sons of Horus (I have a Black Legion army), it seems like you have a soft spot for the EC, so yes, go for it. Joshi
EC... You have a lot of artistic options when it comes to the time frame you speak of. A lot went down with the EC within that frame, So much character there in many people. It would lead to some diversity. Some loyal, some disloyal... Each character in that setting for EC had distinct differences of corruption or evolving corruption from it. Lucius with his cut up face, I could see an interesting duet model with Lucius getting his first cut by Serena D'Angelus interesting idea. Or maybe Eidolon with some sort of neck or mouth change due to Fabius. Vespasian, Saul, Rylanor prove a fun change too with the army line up. You have a lot of interesting options with EC on how to give character to each model with a story even. It can really be a time frame to blur the lines of loyalty and corruption in various ways. I'm not sure how you would do with Luna they seem rather clean cut. I don't really see much for model diversity with them in character but I'm bias as I have no interest in Luna Wolves. I'm sure they have some interesting model ideas but I doubt as many as EC has. Though, I guess I would see it as if you want to model a failed plan or a tragic end. I would say that's the difference between the two but model what inspires your artistic side and pleases you most, double pun is fun! Captain Semper
As an additional incentive to go for SoHs, think Justaerin! The models appear to me to be the best Terminators coming out of FW yet! Plus it allows for more color variation within the force - especially as black patches can find their way on dreadnoughts or sergeants or whatever... So how about it? :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267850-emperors-children-or-luna-wolves/#findComment-3263792 Share on other sites

Thanks very much for the comments and suggestions. You have really helped the decision making process when choosing between the legions. Nevertheless.... I simply couldn't choose between them :D SO INSTEAD! I decided to do Luna Wolves (Or maybe Sons of Horus) with Emperor's Children Allies. Best of both worlds you might say! Making use of all the aquila iconography I've got lying around and having all the character of the Arch Traitor's Legion  Those of you who follow my other stuff will probably be aware that I have a million projects which I would like to do, but I've had an idea for one which surprised even my own cooky self. The nature of this project cannot be spoken of in this record. You might say that this project is forbidden, or otherwise deleted from imp................ Captain Semper
Great choice, do both! Now the sea green of the SoH is a challenge in it's own right so I suggest you take it on! Great Crusade is fine, Heresy is even better!
