Combi-bolter 2nd weapon choice

Not sure on the rules for combi-bolters - if the secondary weapon is not specifically identified in a codex or other ruleset do you get to choose what the secondary weapon is?

You might want to clarify your question. I know of no current Codex which allows the purchase of "combi-weapon" without a specific type. What unit from which entry are you referring to?

Stumpy, a combi-bolter is the Chaos equivalent of a storm bolter. They are identical.

In that case - HHB, Pg.230 says to refer to the BRB for rules on Combi-weapons, which refers to Pg.56. And yes, you can choose.

A combi-bolter is a specific weapon just like a combi-melta is. It is not really a generic combi-weapon like the loyalist are familiar with.

I figured the OP typo-ed, as there is no "second weapon" in a "combi-bolter".

Not exactly. A Combi-bolter is a Twin-linked Bolter (24/4/5/Rapid-fire/Twin-linked) not Assault 2.

It must be modeled as the type of weapon you choose. Combi-weapons can be any of the three (flamer/melta/plasma) but it must be modeled as such.

A combi-bolter is a pair of bolters slapped together to make them twin-linked. It's a critical difference to take notice of. :D

Im going from the Forgeworld Horus Heresy Volume 1 lists which mention combi-bolters and twin-linked bolters but dont specify any secondary weapons

That makes sense. The combi-bolter was HH era equipment that has been replaced over the next 10,000 years. The traitor legions have not had access to the same technological upgrades and still use HH equipment in their new codex.

Here is a picture of a HH era combi-bolter

It really is just a bolter with a second bolter slapped on. The second weapon is another bolter. A combi-plasma is a bolter with a plasma gun on the side. A combi-bolter is a bolter with another bolter on the side. In game, instead of being limited use, the second bolter of the combi makes it hit more often.

Combi-bolters are Twin-linked Bolters.

Combi-weapons

Combi-plasma = Bolter + one-shot Plasmagun

Combi-melta = Bolter + one-shot Meltagun

Combi-flamer = Bolter + one-shot Flamer

A Combi-bolter is a Bolter + a Bolter = a twin-linked Bolter. Which is the precursor to the Stormbolter, and has the profile of a Boltgun plus the twin-linked rule. Is it clear now? Combi-bolters have no "secondary weapon".
