Demus Ragnok
While Horus does speak Cthonic to his gene sons in Horus Rising, he also tells a touching story to the Mournival about the Emperor giving him a book on the ancient Zodiac signs to study, which I always read as an interaction between a child Horus and the Emperor, since with a grown man Horus it would be either comical or creepy. Source on Horus growing to adulthood in a mine? Horus says something along the lines of "we all worked in the mines" or something along those lines to some of his sons. And why would a father giving an adult son (that has never been off the world he landed on) a book of star charts be comical or creepy. Horus was to be a general to lead the E's crusade across the galaxy. A book about of star charts seems...almost a necessity. Page 312 of False Gods Horus has a vision of "home", Cthonia, not Terra. Wade Garrett
Except that it's NOT a book of star charts one would give to a general, it's a child's primer on the stars that includes a listing of the 12 Signs of Zodiac. You can look on page 353 of Horus Rising for confirmation. Man giving a young boy children's books = way of the world Man giving another grown man children's books = what the hell, Emperor? Although now I am imagining Emps trying to bond with a fully grown Russ over The Little Engine That Could So what Zodiac signs are... Oh yeah thats right constellations. And constellations are... stars. Funny that, its like a book of star charts or some such. Considering Horus had never been off the world he was found on. So the E started him off with some basics rather than skipping straight to deep space telemetry. And I think the E bounded with Russ during a drinking game. Yeah that guy had some parenting skill issues.
