Adeptus-Alaska
sooooooo yeah, I finally got some bone white on a termie. I know the some of my edging is a little rough/thick but i'll refine that. this is a test mini! Here goes. http://i1093.photobucket.com/albums/i438/furioso-prime/20121219_122300.jpg http://i1093.photobucket.com/albums/i438/furioso-prime/20121219_122309.jpg http://i1093.photobucket.com/albums/i438/furioso-prime/20121219_122319.jpg http://i1093.photobucket.com/albums/i438/furioso-prime/20121219_122328.jpg like I said test mini. man, that bone color is a pain in the @$$. still need to get some decals and script on him, but how is this for a start. looks like I might be deviating from my Greenwing elitism a little........ :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/268076-primes-first-deathwing/ Share on other sites
egon1six
Looks great so far! Much better than my first attempt!!! Those edge highlights look a little rough and the transition from I am assuming Bestial Brown or equivalent to bone is too stark IMHO. Try blending or using a wash to tie in the transition. Keep up the good work. Oh btw I love what you did with the claws!!! Adeptus-Alaska
well, lesson learned..........never leave a mini out with a brush and some purple wash when there is a 2 yo around. apparently my termie has joined Slaanesh. oh well back to the paint bench for him. Bunta
Thats a shame! It was looking really great. I tried to get mine as white as that but ended up a bit creamish, I would be really stoked it mine turned out like that! Adeptus-Alaska
the white was easier than I thought. 1. Army painter bone white 2. wash devlan mud/agrax earthshade in recesses 3. clean up/cover with screaming skull/bleached bone leaving shade in recesses. 4. edge with white scar/ skull white. thats all i did, honest! Brother Immolator
Army painter and Vallejo colours for the win! Aside from the extreme highlights which I am not a fan of (personal preference not target on your work, but in general), I think your terminator is of great quality. Onwards to a whole squad I say! Brother Kovash
Looks very nice. The edging could be cleaned up a bit, but still looks good to me. But then again, I use washes so what do I know? :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/268076-primes-first-deathwing/#findComment-3266016 Share on other sites
Adeptus-Alaska
thanks for the comments brothers! yeah he is currently being repainted/fixed. my 2 yo applied some purple wash to 80% of him! on a side note it seems my toddler has better brush control than I do :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/268076-primes-first-deathwing/#findComment-3266116 Share on other sites
MithrilForge
He looked good furioso :P i say that in the past tense as he now is a cross between tzeench and slaneesh ..... i reckon he would look perfect from a tabletop view away(2-3ft), and close up pics of models Always enhance what we perceive as flaws in our work so i wouldn't sweat on it :tu: what you really need to do is encourage the wee snotling into painting classes so your base coating can be done by him :) Look fwd to the rest of the squad getting done and your first termie being cleansed of his taint! cheers, Mithril P.S. the termie you have there is the one supposed to have the CML on his back in case you look for the piece it fits later. Fallen Avenger
Im liking how you have painted the Lightning Claws looks smart and simple! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/268076-primes-first-deathwing/#findComment-3266418 Share on other sites
Slyfox1990
Looks pretty good and I reckon with more practice with the technique, you ll make them look really nice. I imagine it's not too tricky to paint like this but takes times? Seems fairly similar to how I've done my normal marines. bevulf
I think he looks really good - IK like the contrast between browns and bleached bone. It always takes more time but final result is worth the endeavour. Keep it up. Apothecary Orpheus
Very nice work, and sounds quick(relatively) and simple, you 'll be up to a full DW force in no time. I find out that edge highliting is easier using the edge of the brush rather than the tip so its neater and saves up time having to tidy up. Also to tie the colors better you can use an intermidate shade like vallejo's off white game color for the edge highlights and use skull white for corners and the top of curves,it will really help the colours to jump out,you can also feather diluted off white a bit towards the bleached bone for a more gradual transition(a bit like wet blending technically but with only 1 colour so easier  ) it is more time consuming but perfect for leaders and such. I also like the sharp contrast of white and dark, less organic brown. Keep it up waiting to see more pics.
