Blue Beetle
In the Betrayal book, in the color plates on pages 71, 72, 74 and 93 the helmets look to me like current 40k armor helmets. In the descriptions they even state these rebreathers have special names but don't look like the studded mk V. Can I use regular marine helms in this case? Dusktiger
they all look to be variations of the MK5 helm, with variations on how big the area the pipes connect into were. note how the 'mohawk' thing on top of the helmets only comes up to the center of his head instead of to his forehead like the mk7 helmets do. these just seem to be missing the forehead studs true mk5 is known for having. Jim AMM realgenius
One description lists it as a Sarum pattern helm and also notes a new issue jump pack. Maybe they are a in between revision, like a Mk 5.5. I'd say if you use the current helms with the transverse crests that would be close, but I think it would look a little funny if they were all new helms with no crest. Anvilarium
In Betrayer, Khârn notes at one point that a couple of his fellow World Eaters have Sarum-Pattern Helms. Also, there is no such thing as an 'official' Mk.V armour. Mk.V was the Mechanicum designation for any ad-hoc collection of salvaged armour parts (either with or without bonded armour studs). So if a Legionary wore a suit that was mostly Mk.IV, but had Mk.III Legs & Helm, it would be designated Mk.V by the Mechanicum. Mk.V is basically a catch-all description for any type of Heresy-Era Legionary power armour that wasn't a complete suite of Mk.II, Mk.III or Mk.IV. Kol Saresk
And since the World Eaters are said to wear Mk IV Maximus armour, it's better to say that the Sarum-pattern rebreather is an attachment of sorts for the Mk IV. Although since Mk V is an ad hoc of every armour Mark put together in some combination along with some improvisations, I'd say you could go for it. Tamwulf
Go for it! As the others have said in this thread, the MK. V armor is a random hodge-podge of bits and pieces of whatever armor the Marine could get. As the Heresy continued, Forgeworlds were ravaged, supply lines cut, and the manufacturing of war material was disrupted. This lead to front line troops having to adapt whatever they had on hand to continue fighting. IIRC, this is how the Predator Annihilator came into being. Some story about some Space Wolves needed some firepower, had some Lascannons laying around but no Long Fangs, so they put them on a Predator. Similar situation with the Mortis Pattern Dreadnought from the Dark Angels. They needed some more firepower, they didn't have enough Dreads, so they scavenged what they could off the battlefield and made the Mortis. Similar situation with the Blood Angels and turbocharged engines so their tanks/armor could keep up with the assault forces. Of course the above fluff has all pretty much been retconned. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/268111-heresy-era-armor-question/#findComment-3265873 Share on other sites
