Raven Angel
Hi all I'm looking for any and all information I can find on the old game Space Fleet. For those that don't know Space Fleet was the for runner of Battlefleet Gothic, Specifically any pic of the old models and rules for the ships, weapons and other systems. Like the old Rogue Trader stuff, Space Fleet would represent Crusade Era ships and technology. Any help would be great because I don't have much beyond the box cover, the pics on The Stuff Of Legends, and GameHobby.net. dswanick
Just want to mention, if you're planning on mixing the models, that the old Space Fleet minis are quite a bit smaller than the current BFG models. They work passably well as civilian ships and local light escorts, but won't compare to the multi-part cruiser and battleship models. As an aside, there is a resource online that identifies all the current BFG ship classes which are identified as "Great Crusade-era". So if you want to play a purely 30k game, just limit yourself to those patterns. I don't have to explain the slight scaling issues then. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/268120-space-fleet/#findComment-3265687 Share on other sites
Anvilarium
Like the old Rogue Trader stuff, Space Fleet would represent Crusade Era ships and technology. Doesn't really work that way unfortunately. The ships you see in current Battlefleet Gothic are the same as the ones depicted in the stories and artwork of the Horus Heresy. Also, most of the Space Fleet ships were pretty awful. The only one I deemed worthy of keeping was the Castellan Shield Ship, which is currently serving in my BFG Adeptus Mechanicus Explorator Fleet! Raven Angel
Try Board Game Geek for information and pictures. Ah thanks a little more info Just want to mention, if you're planning on mixing the models, that the old Space Fleet minis are quite a bit smaller than the current BFG models. There are several ship that obviously don't conform to know BFG classes. I think that while many of the Space Fleet ships bare the same names as BFG ships their are real functional differences. As for this resouce you mind posting the link? Not all the classes in the novels and Collected Visions are represent in BFG. This is especially true of the Legion Flagships and several larger Cruiser Classes. Rider-75
Scale doesn't matter in BFG rules anyway. All measurements are base/stem related to the actual SIZE of the model has no impact on the game. You will however probably have to convert any old SF ships to match the weapon config of the current BFG ships. greatcrusade08
sorry to slightly hijack, but does anyone use non GW ships for BFG? the space battles ones are very small and im thinking a better scale non GW mini might be better? Russ Brother 92
I've got mates who use stuff from Firestorm Armada; various are decent quality (Dindrenzi Federation look very Mechanicus, Rense System Navy could be hi-tech Rogue Traders or Imp. Guard, Terran Alliance have some decent SM Frigate-esque, The Directorate is deffo Tau and the Zenian League has some chaosy ships).
