WIP Chapter: The Corvus Aureus

Corvus Aureus

Thanks! Yeah the empire sets tend to come with a ton of extra bits... I don't have an empire army but I went through with a halfhearted attempt to make a zombie-empire Vampire Counts army... they don't look half bad but that was the original inspiration for this force: "Well, I got the bits, so I might as well make them medieval."

So I had a question for /Bolter/, I don't really have a designated army rule set to use, but I was thinking about jumping in with the Blood Angels, and replace the Death Company with some variant of "Questing Knights"... maybe marines that have sworn death pacts to seek out and slay the biggest, baddest, many-est foes on the battlefield. I would use grey knights models outfitted with jump packs (at only 8.00$ extra it's much cheaper than buying a whole set of assault marines for bits.) I think I have enough bolt pistols to outfit them accordingly, although I would definitely use the sweet CC weapons that the grey knights come with. Just a thought. If anyone thinks that another chapter's rules or units... DA or Templar I guess, would fit the chapter better (you've seen what I've got, minus the razorback), please tell me.

Anyways finished up two more Cataphracti, one of whom is the captain of the squad. Here they are:

As well as re-shot some of the honor guard squad so that you can actually see how much the blue pops.

And finally! The assembled 10 man tactical squad. Still have 10 more marines to paint for the second one.

These photos have MUCH better lighting than the previous ones (fiddled around with the camera settings too), so there you have it!

OK, so here's some more... the second tactical squad minus the standard bearer and flamer, and two repainted terminators. Figured I'd try and get some feedback on them.

Well I've started trying to drill holes in all the bolters. I think I have the right bore down, I just need to become more precise... some of those guns are going to have accuracy... issues.

So here's the two repainted terminators from the 5th edition starter kit...

The Heavy Bolter in the tactical squad (I'm proud of his ammo feed ^_^ )

And the rest of the squad, minus two (the banner is going to take a while... even once I figure out the chapter symbol  ) I tried to do a glow on the marine with the auspex (I think that's what it's called?) I might eventually go back and try to add glows to other things as well.

And now... the Phaserback!

I'm not hard core enough to paint the interior. And my brushwork is messy. But I still like the way it came out! :D

Here's the standard bearer (counts as a regular marine w/ bolter in his tactical squad... for now) Feedback is welcome. It's a bit rough yet, and the marine isn't fully painted... first time I've used green stuff to try and model too, so no surprise that the arm holding up the banner looks a little funky... best I can do for now tho.

OK! Just bought a death company and Dreadnought to bulk up my force! (figure I'll use codex blood angels because they're more assault-y, as befits a more medieval chapter.)

The death company bits will be spliced w/ the grey knights bits to create my grail knights... just death company (w/ death company weapons) w/ hybrid grey knight/death company bodies. They might be magnetized so that they can double as true grey knights as well.

But seeing as the magnets haven't arrived I thought I'd start work on the dreadnought, which is modular enough that I'm free to keep the arms interchangeable. So it can be converted back and forth between a Fury and Death Company dreadnought. I had to get creative with the blood fist... it became a blade (but not the librarian blade) so that I could use both hands for the blood talons. It'll probably drive WYSIWYG people insane, but I figure if it's a medieval chapter, a massive double ended blade is just as deadly and heavy as any dreadnought power fist.

I think it looks pretty damn cool too.

I had to get creative w/ the spotlights too... actually lost the sprue one! So instead I'm using space marine pauldrons w/ green stuff in them to form the lenses. I think they actually look pretty good, despite being so simple.

The head is a grey knights terminator one, again to go along w/ the medieval theme. I'll probably be liquid green stuffing the joins some more before I prime it... although my painting style is such a mess I doubt anyone would notice. Add some sand to the base... if anyone has any suggestions, please comment.

Well... finished the last three figures for the missile squad, so here they are, +their afore-shown razorback. I have no idea how effective these guys are going to be... I guess they fill a niche, like infantry harassment and transport destruction? I'm not sure they're game changers, but at least they're finished. Their sarge is sporting a banner, showing some ill-painted Corvus pride. Primed the dreadnought and arms... he's going to be up next.

Can't wait to get the BA codex to arrive so I can take these guys out for a spin... I sometimes order online because it makes the money spending seem more painless.

OK! Finished the Fragioso dreadnought and am working on the DC conversion. I had the ironclad dreadnought painted on the first page, but since BA can't use Ironclads (I think...) I'm converting it to a DC one using the claws in the Fury kit. Although I did LOVE the spear and chainfist. I'm keeping those. Just in case one day they may return to their proper place.

So, my question is: Death Company colors. You've seen the Corvus Aureus. Teal/Gold with red weapons. You've seen the vanguard: Gold/red. Chaplain is just plain dark teal.

So what colors should the death company and DC dreads be? I was thinking gold torso and legs with red arms, and possibly helmets, but I'm open to suggestions. Bear in mind these aren't traditional DC, they're marines who have taken vows to kill the biggest, meanest things on the battlefield (Think Dwarf Slayers minus the bright orange beards). They'll be a mix of assault, DC, tactical and Grey Knight sprues (plus medieval bits). I also need a way to differentiate them from sanguinary priests, who I was thinking would probably be all gold, or all red.

EDIT: Finished the DC Dreadnought. it turned out better than I thought it might. (I put GK halberd tips on the HK missiles to represent Magna Grapples , gotta improvise sometimes)

And... the completed Fragioso.

GK kits, shields, grass tufts and asssorted bits should arrive today or tomorrow. Once I've completed modeling of the DC I'll post them for critique.
