Jacobius
Greetings Brothers and Sisters, Some background: my IA is a stealth focused, information obsessed chapter (see my sig for the article, feel fee to C&C at will  ) with a HQ/council type thing that acts as leadership and data analysis. This got me thinking about the role of librarians in my chapter. I had the below ideas and would love your opinions on if you think it fits and what the cheese rating would be? -Psykers are identified and begin their training like any other recruit -Part of their training involves initiation into the "pack mind" a hive mind type psychic tether that allows rapid communication of information. What one knows, all know. 2 options: 1. The initiates lead scout squads, enhancing stealth and relaying intelligence directly. Basically a low level/basically trained/basically skilled psyker-sergeant with subtle abilities, using combat to improve and advance 2. Initiates are formed into a specialist scout squad under direct control of the eruditium. They perform most dangerous missions that require extreme levels of stealth and secrecy. Pack mind allows amplification of powers to 'Jedi mind trick' their way around etc. Initiates led by a full librarian. Which one works better? Are they both too much super cheese? Ultra Mary Sue? Does 20-25 basic librarians in training seem like too many? Do I need a fluffsplanation of where all the psykers are coming from? Cheers -J- Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/268194-i-had-an-idea-about-night-wolf-librarians/ Share on other sites
Messor
Since one of the more important responsibilities of Librarians among codex chapters is communication, I don't think 20-25(about 2 per codex company) is too much. I don't think the idea is Mary Sue as is either, but to mitigate the risk consider the following: the tether, by nature, binds the fate of these libbies-in-training. If one, for example, doesn't carry his weight of the psychic burden or can't maintain a stable mental link and he or a brother dies abruptly, psychic backlash could wound/kill him or another brother. I would also suggest making the tether between small groups, like three to four, and making the link permanent/unbreakable, so that responsibility persists and grows throughout their careers (hence only connecting three or four at a time, eggs in separate baskets). It's hard to decide between your two ideas, they're both pretty awesome. I think the first one goes further towards preparing them for the work they'll do in the future, and the second is closer to straight librarian/psyker training. I think I lean towards the second. Jacobius
Yeah I'm leaning towards the second one too. I was inspired by this article and this model from FW. Got me thinking about the lower level librarians and how they would make their way up the ranks. Anyone else have any thoughts?
