Demoulius
I can think of only 1 MC that has a 4+ save and thats a Harpy, whos T5... so against any other MC's the powermaul's advantages are lost as its opponent has a 3+ save or equal invunerable save. The wounding on 4's isent as big if it still allows saves imho. What about MCs with a 2+ save? (Tyrannofex). Keeper of Secrets has a 4+ save, as do the Bloodthirster and Great Unclean One. Mycetic Spore is technically an MC with a 4+ save, and the C'tan shards have a 4+ as well. Against all of those the maul is better as it forces them to their worse invulnerable save (barring the 'fex) with a higher chance of wounding due to its greater strength. I still reckon the sword is only better against a save of exactly 3+, against anything else the maul is better due to higher S because the AP stops being a factor In my opinion its always better to kill those targets with ranged weapons instead of killing them in combat :) when you really really need to kill them in combat grenades are always a good back up as well. powersword wont do much with its base strength and AP of 3. In that case might as well use grenades when you dont got the charge anymore. Weight of wounds is also going to do alot more imho...
BLACK BLΠFLY
I like to run my Chaos Space Marine aspiring champions with a lightning claw and power fist... A good chunk of points for a one wound model but I love the versatility. I'm not sure if this is an option for Blood Angels - don't have my codex with me right now. I much prefer a lightning claw over a power sword plus if you can take two specialist weapons you still get the +1A. Like I said I know it's a lot of points for a one wound model but I really like assault phase. I had forgot that the power maul is +2S... I think it's quite good... Especially versus monstrous creatures... If you manage to get through their armor/hide then you can beat the snot out of them the next turn. I'm thinking now there is definitely a place for power fists in a squad of Sanguniary Guard since they don't have any characters plus the cost is right in my opinion. fivepointedstar
I'm good with my pf Sgt's having bolt pistol, and PF's. Plus I'm too lazy, and don't feel like breaking their arms ( or going the magnet route) just to get a better edge. My assault squad main role is objective keeper's as I use other units with better survivability to do the bloody work of smashing enemy units. After losing to much to space puppies trying to all out assault with AS's I've given up on there usefulness, and use them primarily for contesting objectives, and scoring points that way. I still use them with double meltaguns, and a Power fisted Sgt. Just like 5th ed.
