*Furyou Miko
So I'm finally getting around to allying in some daemons. I don't have any Flamers or Screamers yet, so any post that starts with 'get some Flamers'... will be ignored for now. I know Flamers and Screamers are insane. However, I'm building this detachment primarily to let me actually field the Greater Daemon of Tzeentch I've had since I bought the model ten years ago in an 'ooh, so pretty' moment. My main army are mostly Thousand Sons and Cultists led by Ahriman, with a Oblits, a Predator and a Hellbrute as backup. My questions are: How big a unit of Horrors should I have, and what kinds of upgrades should I be looking at? Are Instrument and Icon worth it, when I'm looking at one unit of Horrors and a flying Greater Daemon? How much will people object to me using an old metal Greater Daemon with a staff and no helmet as Fateweaver? If it's a Big No, which upgrade should I drop to bring an equivalently-gifted GToT down to his points level? (OK, now you can talk about Flamers and Screamers: Which should I get first?) Black_Crusader
A lord of change is a nice flyier choice as an ally so for starters he could be worth it all by himself. As for the horrors i guess it depends on the rest of your army. If you feel you have enough troops a single unit is fine to unlock the Lord (and possibly flamers, screamers later) For upgrades, instrument is useless (even more on horrors that don't like hand to hand). Icon has no use since you only bring 2 units. Even if you play more later on it will still be a waste of points. (Keeping 25 points for a unit of flamers that may come and have a close target is a one in a million cases that the icon could help). As for bolt i feel BS 3 is low for a single shoot. I never have luck with my bolts but i know that's just me, i am sure the bolt from the LoC can be useful. As for the greater daemon, since the FAQ Fateweaver can only give rerolls on daemons so it is probably better to keep a regular LoC instead of Fateweaver anyway. For tournament play i beleive a two headed Lord is nessecary to represent Fateweaver. For upgrades on the LoC i would say none. You can Vector strike light armour or MEQ and shoot bolt on flyiers at the same time or go down blast bolt and gaze and then charge a unit. If you can spare some points though breath is always nice to have. If you take breath then master of sorcery is cheap and could be worth it to make him shoot everything in one round. We are legion could make him as good as Fateweaver but then he will cost as much as Fateweaver and i don't feel he will be worth it. There is no answer in the question flamers or screamers first, they are both awesome. But i beleive that screamers are easier to play with since with their abbility to turbo boost 24'' the turn they arrive allow for a much easier deepstrike and choise of target. *Furyou Miko
Can Screamers do their mini-vector-strike thing off the Turbo-boost move? Black_Crusader
Yes, the slashing attack takes place during the turbo boost move Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/268393-allying-in-tz-daemons-very-basic-questions/#findComment-3269116 Share on other sites
EricBasser
*Not advocating Flamers and Screamers. But due to not having them, I do advocate Breath of Chaos as a upgrade on Lord of Change and Daemon Prince. And on a Lord of Change, if you're upgrading to Breath of Chaos, and have the points, might as well take Fateweaver. For horrors there are a couple of different ways to run them. Fluffy in 9 with Bolt and Changeling. Cheaper with 5 and bolt. Or large of 10-15 with changeling. Depending on the points. I would also add a Tzeentch Daemon Prince with Wongs, Bolt, and Breath. Ok. Now that those were talked about. Screamers and Flamers add a Anti-tank to your army as well as anti-TEQ. Do you have the updates rules for them? A lot of people missed out on the WD Update. *Furyou Miko
I generally consider Wongs to be more of a Slaaneshi upgrade... :D (sorry, couldn't resist) Don't have a Prince at the moment. Thinking of converting one out of Ariel though - what do you think? No point keeping her for my WElves, it's doubtful she'll ever be a playable character again. I do have the updated rules, yes - and my army IS lacking in the anti-tank at the moment. I did notice that Fateweaver actually comes in at about 30 points cheaper than a Lord of Change with the same upgrades... EricBasser
Ha ha ha. I'm not even going to change it. Two wongs make a right? . . . . Yeah. Even if the meta is changing, there are still going to be AV. Combat is easier against AV, and hit rear armor. Screamers have armorbane, and they excel at TEQ and Anti-tank. If including them, since allies can only take one squad, I would make it one the larger side. If you're set on anti-flyers I would pass on Fateweaver and a Daemon Prince. Take Blue Scribes and stick them with 5-6 Flamers. Two units of Horrors, 5-10 one with Changeling, and 6-9 Screamers. February Daemons are rumored a new codex. So anything can change. I'm holding off on buying any other models for a while until I know I won't get screw out of a list. I expect Flamers and Screamers to increase in points. *Furyou Miko
Haha, no, I'm set on using a Lord of Change. ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/268393-allying-in-tz-daemons-very-basic-questions/#findComment-3270231 Share on other sites
Shuggnuggath
I just use a bare bones Lord of Change. I don't think Fate Weaver would be worth it with so few Daemons. If you are trying to decide between Screamers and Flamers for TSons I suggest screamers first. They add some much needed speed and combat ability.
