The mycoprotein used to produce Quorn is extracted from the fungus Fusarium venenatum, which is grown in large vats.

(although I believe I will be eating some today, sounds delicious, right?).

Actually, the reason it doesn't sell is more closely related to two other things.

 

1. the cost of the product (due mostly to the very strict conditions it is processed under)

2. diahrrea

 

That aside, I'm not sure there is a large american market for "meat free, soy free." The fact that it's from a fungus is probably irrelivant when you consider that our USDA approved a meat filler called "pink slime" for use.
