Bjorn the Fell-Handed, is he good?

Wouldn't you know that we all overlooked the venerable rule? Silly us! So the 5 up invulnerable save is nice but the venerable ruling allows us to have the other player re-roll any penetrating hits since glances don't do didly now adays. I think that I am good with one through 4. Vehicle Destroyed and Vehicle Exploding, go ahead and reroll that for me if you would be so kind.

Yeah that is also true that in todays games that are VP/objective dependent he gives them up if he dies and he will tie down a unit, he is still fun to build an army round and play!

well on that field he's not much better than a thunderlord with saga of the bear, 3 high strength AP2 wounds will kill your lord just as well (should you fail your invulnerable save (granted its a 3+ VS 5+ but still, actually glancing bjorn is still one heck of a task!especially since he can challenge
...especially since he can challenge

tbh I think the best part about him being able to challenge is that people won't want to lose their character to him - thus are likely to opt out and you can simply plow into the rest of the unit - he'll be a gun magnet but that's not such a problem...

While considered a poor choice by the interweb i did note that the SW list the that won the Most 5th ed USGT Wins was built around bjorn. If you look up Reece Robbins on Blood of kittens he has his list there and explains how it worked.

Hendrik--thanks for your opinion. I didn't start this thread but I have been following it & I've always been one to run more fluffy or all comers style lists so some of what you said in your comparisons made me look at things differently. I personnally love Bjorn but have a hard time lately justifying him, especially about his progress across the board. It made me think about the rest of my army & its general purpose. I may try utilizing Bjorn a little differently going forward. Thanks.
well to be honest i've actually never fielded bjorn myself, but tried to look at him in a very broad tactical comparison with the thunderlord, our only standard HQ coming into the same point range as him since people complained about his pointcost, something i too did myself to be honest. However as i was writing the comparison bjorn grew on me, and his point cost became to make sense. If wielded by a potent general, and if it has a supporting list to go along with him, a bjorn-list seems like a very potent build that can mess up a whole lot of other lists, such as alpha strike imperial guard lists, etc
Ok I'm gong to field bjorn now just to see for myself how he fares in a Mech oriented list. I will be surprised if he lives more than a couple turns though..he's just too juicy a target especially for flyers but hunter melta/plasma squads too. On a related note I wish he at least had BS 6 to twin link his asscan vs flyers.
I don't know about BA but I played Bjorn once in the early summer against Necrons & All I can says is shield him with Rhinos & get into CC early. I think I was lucky but he did manage to kill 3 squads of Warriors & 2 of their barge transport thingies. But getting caught in the open by several of anything Necron definitly sucks for Bjorn. Was glanced to Death. Good Luck.
