pre-heresy colors question

Recommended Posts

My understanding is that the colours were an edict of the Codex Astartes. So at face value there was no standardisation before the Codex. However (and this is an assumption from my part) the Codex might have arbitrarily used the colours for specialists or it could have codified the per-existing norm. Or it could be what was happening in the UM Legion... In any case the standardisation of colours is associated with the Codex Astartes, although what was happening before is not 100% clear to me.

Well... Yes and no. It means you have some freedom in choice, which is good... It is also conceivable that two Librarians of the same Legion have different colour patterns as personalisation of armour was much more common in per-Codex times...

I painted a Dark Angels Librarian in black (the DAs pre-Codex colours) with red robes. Why? Because I use red as a complementary colour in my force and looks great. No blue at all...however, I could have used blue or even white (which is the "standard" colour for DAs robes). 30k is just great that way! :D
