Grimtooth
So I had a guy at my LGS point me towards the first GT of the year, WarGamesCon, and the rules. It appears that the point level will be 1850pts and that Warhammer 40k Approved Forgeworld units are legal. This is filtering down to the shops that I frequent which is pretty damn awesome for players like me that do not want to ally in air defenses or buy fortifications. So what would all of you add to your lists from FW for anti-air? I am liking the Hyperios platforms with one of them being the command platform to get split fire. hendrik
well to be honest I would not buy the hyperios platforms from forgeworld. the whirlwind turret + turretmount from the aegis defense line make an excelent hyperios platform, not to mention you could always use the aegis defence line if you ever wanted, or even as normal terrein placed somewhere in the middle of your table if your opponent agrees. at 35 pts the hyperios platforms are a steal, however i'd advise to take atleast 2 per unit. dswanick
So what would all of you add to your lists from FW for anti-air? I am liking the Hyperios platforms with one of them being the command platform to get split fire. My mathammer tells me that the closest equivalent in destructive power to the Aegis Quadgun is 3 Hyperios Platforms, which cost 55pts more and pays for the Aegis Line for the Quadgun. For 140pts, 4 Hyperios Platforms are better than even the Quadgun. A single Hyperios Platform has a <10% chance of killing a Flyer, so Split Fire seems like an expensive waste of 45pts+35pts. For my money, I will buy an Aegis Line w/ Quadgun for 100pts. And only in larger games will I consider buying three Hyperios Platforms to augment the Line. The only exception to this I can see is if you don't plan on having a unit to man the Quadgun - in which case the Automated Hyperios Platforms are the better starting point. Spacefrisian
Forgewolrd version of the Whirlwind includes an anti air option. Those rules can be easily found from the FW site (i got mine from that site). bebe
If I'm not mistaken JotWW affects artillery. So you can take them out with one Rune Priest dropping down turn one. Of course, since SW do not use any flyers we could choose to just ignore them. As for adding them in - I would rather take allies to shore up my AA.
