Cmdr Shepard
Greetings fellow Legionaries, I came into a little "dilemma" about which version on Legion Terminators to field. Personally I like Cataphractii for their 4++ invul but it comes with a price. Being Slow and Purposeful makes run movements impossible for them and it forces us to put them in a transport. This will require a significant amount of points, especially if you plan to field 10 men units. What's your opinion on the matter? So if we want to field more then one unit of Legion TDA, a part from the Orbital Assault rite of war, do you suggest to field a large Cataphractii unit in a transport and field the reamaing unit in standard TDA pattern or to go with smaller 5 men units in Land Raiders (which tend to be quite expensive)? Thank you for your assistance. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/268953-cataphractii-or-standard-terminators/ Share on other sites

Thank you for your assistance. I'm taking cataogractii simply because they are cooler models. You don't need a transport for them because of the 4++, I'm running 5 dudes with lightning claws and they make it across the board fine, just back them up with another badass unit, like a command squad. I dont have any vehicles at the moment, but I seem to do fine without but my lack of ranged anti tank (via lack of funds) means that I have to pick and choose my playstyle, prefering to go for powerful single models such as praetors with paragon blades, to get my anti heavy infantry fill. I prefere the cataphractii also, because otherwise standard termies will need alot of work to make viable for 30k, such as removal of the chest eagles and the crux? terminatus. Ever heard of shooting? A squad loaded out for ranged combat should do fine I reckon. GlauG
I have ended up with some 30ish Cataphracti Terminators through an unexpected combination of circumstances, but if I hadn't, I'd have stopped with a single squad of 10 with shooty weapons, footslogging... Probably two Reapers, and Combi-Plas all round. They'd be a hell of a target, but 2/4++ and the Reapers to plink at anything shy of AV13 from most of the board away means that I think they could make a great distraction that would be hard to avoid, with 8 plasma guns stomping towards you... Honestly I wasn't thinking about transport as a protection but as a way to bring the unit within "threat range". I'm glad to read your Terminators are doing fine. I'll give it a try to the footslogging Cataphractii, then. Maybe I should give a Caestus or a Spartan (still need to acquire those models, though :D ) to the unit I want to field with dual plasma blasters. About the 30K look: If you want "standard TDA" you could use the Tartaros Pattern ones. The crux may be a post heresy symbol but I don't see any problem with the Aquila. Forge World used the Tartaros models as World Eaters TDAs in Oct. WD on pag 87. They simply removed the crux ;) Ever heard of shooting?A squad loaded out for ranged combat should do fine I reckon. Obviously I heard of shooting. The problem is, a part from reaper, their range is about 24", thus if you don't run you need more time to reach your weapons' range compared to "running" terminators. I have ended up with some 30ish Cataphracti Terminators through an unexpected combination of circumstances, but if I hadn't, I'd have stopped with a single squad of 10 with shooty weapons, footslogging... I think the Reapers TDA will be more suited for the footslogging role then the plasma blaster squads. I always liked 10 men the footslogging TDA units ( in C:SM, C:GK and C:CSM): my only concern for Cataphractii, as mentioned before, is the fact you cannot run IF, you need to run to redeploy or reach threat range one turn before you do with "normal" movement. Perhaps I'm worrying too much about that circumstance ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/268953-cataphractii-or-standard-terminators/#findComment-3276637 Share on other sites
