Forza St. Pauli
Good morning fellow hobbyists, I always felt it’s a bit difficult to paint red parts, especially red helmets. I never got a satisfying result, either the paint was applied to thick or the coverage not smooth enough. So I came up with the thought to airbrush the helmets for my Ultramarines sergeants. I’m a big fan of Vallejo Model Air and want to use a red paint from this range. The question is which one, because there are several paints to choose from... Scarlet Red (71.003) Italian Red (71.085) Fire Red (71.084) Red RLM 23 (RLM23) Has anyone made experience with these colours and maybe uses one of them for their UM sergeants helmets? The red I’m looking for should look like the one from the sarge on this pic. http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1252488_99120101034_SMAssaultSqdmain_445x319.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/269171-ultramarines-red-sergeants-helmets/ Share on other sites
S.k.i.t.t.l.e
I know that you're a fan of the Model Air range, but the Game Colour range is the one that will be easiest to find a comparable colour, as they are GW colours with a different name. See here. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/269171-ultramarines-red-sergeants-helmets/#findComment-3279694 Share on other sites
Ironwulf
Based on Vallejo's color chart pdf from their website (available HERE) , I'd suggest the Scarlet Red, but shaded with the Italian Red or Fire Red. These are just representations for those brochures, but I'd bet that it gets you close. I hope this helps. Thunder_god
True Farbton 23 (RLM is a misnomer, but the military historian in me digresses...) is a very vivid red. You c an see a good representation by master modeler Chris Wauchop here: http://www.scaleworkshop.com/workshop/fw190d932jv44cw_1.htm Scarlet red may be a good choice. Tamiya X-7 Red would be an excellent choice as well if its available for you.
