Quick question about The First Heretic

So, back in the day, Cadia was home to a great many Necron pyramids that were thought to be doing something like holding the warp back/also kind of crumbling. Given this, it seems an odd place for a Chaos worshipping cult to hang around, like the one to which Ingethel belonged. But as far as the HH is concerned, was this still a world home to Necron pyramids? Has this fluff been discarded by ADB and the BL community? I dont mean to suggest that a story that had something to do with Cadia/Khur absolutely Must have an element of ancient Necron stuff going on, quite the contrary; I hate to think that a story that is focusing on one theme Must pay homage to another. Planets are rather big, after all. But (and this is where I might be getting my facts wrong) didnt the WB fleet scan or do recon of Khur and report that it was a rather bleak and unremarkable place? If I am wrong, stop me there, but if they did in fact say that, it seems odd to me that a network of vast pyramid structures built by an unknown xenos on a massive scale either escaped notice or comment.

So, am I totally wrong about something, or

Did this fluff get retconned out of existence (or at least relevance)

Did I make a huge mistake and there are no pyramids on Cadia? They were there (I am pretty sure, this was a long time ago) back in Codex: Eye of Terror.

Was it a different planet in the Cadian system perhaps?

Thanks for the thoughts!

It's actually very plausible to be both. The Necrons had come and gone before Slaanesh was ever even made back when the Human race could only be found on Terra. It's more than likely that one point in time, Cadia could have served as a staging ground for Necron attacks into the Eldar empire, as the Eye of Terror is at the Empire's old heart. When the War in the Heavens was won and the Necrons went to sleep. Humanity would expand and it is apparently the case that one of those exodus colonies made it to Cadia, but somewhere their technology was lost. After that, there is the eventual creation of the Eye and the Birth of Slaanesh which led to the corruption of the Cadians, leaving them ripe and ready for what we saw in The First Heretic.

EDIT: I also feel the need to point out that most Necron structures are buried underground. Now, while I don't remember how extensively detailed their scans were, it's possible they just scanned the surface and the bombardment of Cadia unearthed some of the pyramids, but at that point their interest in the planet had been lost.

Not only that, but many world that have had very thorough scanning done (such as those used for mining purposes would have had to be scanned thoroughly to identify the appropriate minerals in a quantity sufficiently worthy of mining) and have passed over Necron technology. If I remember correctly, the first recorded Necron awakening was on a mining colony. So it would probably be the case that Imperial Scanners are simply incapable of picking up Necron technology once dormant.

The necron pylons on Cadia feature in Dan Abnet's eisenhorn books in 40k, and although he often feels free.to meddle with other pre existing lore, it would be less likely for him to be inconsistant ith his own writings about one of his favourite characters.

One thing that is worth noting at the time of the heresy is that these pylons may not have actually yet been discovered by the imperium. The humans living on cadia were tribal and may have avoided areas where pylons were meaning imperial contact would not necessarily have discovered the pylons. Likewise it could also he true that the.pylons were actually excavated during the settlement of cadia by a loyal imperial population some time in the 10000 years between the two periods.

An example of a Necron construction deep inside a planet is in the first book of the WordBearers Trilogy. In that story to reach the pyramid, the WB needed to invade the world, built a massive artefact of Chaos, awaited a very rare astral conjunction... in order to break the crust of the planet and to reach the pyramid.

So it's possible that every Necron structure are very deep inside the planets and without extensive research it's completely possible to avoid one for a million of years.

For the Anti-Warp effect down (in the case of the Cadian Gate) it could simply a result of the powering down of the structure. The device is perfectly working but inoperative without energy, in order to preserve the energy for the future re-awakening at the right time...
