his normal form would be a generic/standard 30mm base (he's a regular dude at this point) and in large form I'd suggest either a 60mm base (Thunderwolf/Dreadnought) or a 40mm base (Terminator), the second base depends on what size the model you use to show The Red Maw.

A model for him, personally I'd use a regular model and kitbash him, if your good a Green-Stuff modelling then use that to your advantage :) you can still google images of the model (they did make one but decided not to release it) - for his Wulfen form idk I know a couple of gents have used various werewolf models.

Hope this helps and nice to see you back in the Aett postal :)

Wow, I only just noticed that he's a monstrous creature now (as per an IA11 FAQ issued a while back, that escaped my notice).

What the...

A monstrous creature that can join a unit. 6 str 7 (or 3 str 10) AP 2 attacks at init 6 on the charge (plus HoW) is umm... not too bad? *drool*

And he allows you to make 2 units outflank (the one he leads, along with one extra unit of grey hunters) - and on top of that, you're free to buy a SotH wolf priest, if you really want. (I already knew this part, but now that he's a MC...) The only odd thing is the part that says "and any fenrisian wolves he is leading"... is that a restriction? Or is it an extra that has now become redundant as the Outflank USR is bequeathed to attached units?

I was eyeing up Sevrin Loth jealously (partly because I love the model, partly because of the powergamer in me), but this guy...

this is a reference to when saga of the hunter only worked for the character it was bought for+any fenrisian wolves he had bought as wargear.

In the book, the red maw has str 6 and furious charge, but no special close combat weapon so his attacks are all at AP-.

The FAQ is where it's at. The monstrous creature special rule is absolutely pivotal to the effectiveness of this character. And unlike many (most?) monstrous creatures, he's also an independent character. Those 6 str 7 (or 4 str 10 - I calculated it wrong previously... it's (5 / 2) = 3; 3 + 1 = 4) AP2 attacks are sorta crazy for a model buried in a unit. Even with only his 5+ FnP save, he'll still be pretty good in duels because he'll ID most targets before they get to strike back.

It would be very nice to give him an invulnerable save through some psychic power. Stormcaller is a 4+ cover save for his whole unit, thanks to his stealth rule.

Does anybody know what has happened to the Forge World Redmaw figures? I know one was well advanced as it was shown at UK Games Day in 2011 I think, pretty sure it wasn't shown at the last GD or at least I didn't see it. Also I'm pretty sure the 'bran flake' redmaw was at last years Forge World open day and not at Games Day. So where has the IA11 Wolves love gone? At least Eldar players got some new kits but the wolves seem to be lost with all the HH love...

I asked FB's FW page this question, and was told that the figure was a WiP that was scrapped.

this answer pissed me off as it was a cool model.

You forgot the hammer of wrath strike he gets on the turn that he charges as well =p

Hehe, I remembered it but neglected to mention it, oops. Keep in mind though, it's an unmodified strength 6 and AP-. Still, worth hanging on to!!

I was looking at Bran's rules regarding deployment, and it's a bit curious. He gives a unit of grey hunters infiltrate and behind enemy lines: In fact, infiltrate may be the better option, more often than not. Bran wants you to get into melee ASAP. I think that a Bran army should aim to have some units in melee on turn 2 if at all possible, so that he can get a bonus to his redmaw roll at the beginning of turn 3.

Infiltrate helps you get a unit of grey hunters into close combat by turn 2 fairly well. Outflank? Not possible, sadly! At best, the grey hunters are looking at a turn 3 assault. Sure, you don't need to get EVERY unit into CC ASAP, but the more the merrier, right? So I think infiltrate is potentially a good option for those grey hunters.

What other options do we have for a turn 2 assault? A few I can think of:

bikes

fenrisian wolves - if you're already taking a unit of these (see below) you may want to invest in an IC with SotWolfkin and one or two more units of them.

thunderwolves

land raiders.

Some other thoughts:

1) Weirdly, Bran cannot infiltrate with the grey hunters that he grants that special rule to (He lacks infiltrate, so cannot join infiltrators during deployment). You might not want to anyway as it means you miss out on the opportunity to outflank him, so perhaps it's not a big deal.2

2) Outflanking Bran seems potentially worthwhile. He's not amazing on turn 1 (or 2, unless you're playing against another melee-oriented force), because he hasn't transformed yet. If he comes in from reserves on turn 2, he should be well placed to charge when he transforms on turn 3.

3) Fenrisian wolves have no ranged attacks, so seem like an odd unit to pair him up with. On the other hand, they are extremely durable! If you arrive behind cover of any sort from reserves, they have a 4+ cover save and therefore only concede 4 points per wound caused against them (regardless of AP). A grey hunter concedes 5 points against a bolter, while a hammernator concedes 13 points against a lascannon. On top of that, they have fleet, meaning that they won't slow him down (he slows them down though!)

4) Another pretty good option for an outflanking buddy, I think, would be grey hunters or wolf guard.

Yep, Ashmantle is right (and it's worth mentioning that his axe, as it stands, is a bit like a frost lightning claw in that it gives +1 str but otherwise functions very much like a lightning claw (reroll wounds, no extra attack, AP3). It doesn't really function much like an axe, perhaps unfortunately, depending on your preference!

Note also that he never gets the +1 from the axe AND the +1 from furious charge at the same time. Before transforming, he has the axe but no furious charge. After transforming, he loses all of his wargear other than his bling of hittiness.

He is calculating with the Redmaw (base strength of 6 +1 for furious charge), hence the 6 attacks (base 5 +1 for charging).

quick one chaps - can any of you find the FAQ for Bran, I'm on the FW site and in their Chars FAQ it's only got Solomon Lok, Necrosius, Hector Rex, Zhufor and Arkos :( no Bran...

an odd one that people may not know (still somewhat relevant) I popped into my local GW, GW-HQ will NOT be sending out anymore FW books to regular stores, so those in-house are the only ones your LFGS will get, atm the only re-stocks are to the HQ stores (Oxford St store in London and Nottingham) and perhaps the same equivies in other countries.

ahh thank you very much khine smile.png this does fix me up with a thirst for an outflanking army haha

offtopic.gif and sorry if this constitutes stealing your thread Postal :(sweat.gif - I've just found an interesting bit of info regarding the numbers of Space Wolves in each company, now we know that those of Grimmy and Rags are the largest but I now have reason to believe they would be nearing 250-300 men each without extras such as Dreads/Priests etc. as they're only attached as/when required and are primarily for the Great Wolf... pg. 47 of the IA11: Doom of Mymeara states "...the Claws of Russ digging deep into the ice world, as close to two hundred Space Wolves made planetfall." <- now I know that FW are sometimes a little loose with canon etc. but here we have a 'regular' and up until this point completely un-fleshed Great Company having numbers ranging 180-200+ Space Wolves at his command, and that's only those who have used Drop Pods.
