Is anyone else baffled by the Blades of Caliban?

I also thought this might be a typo.... either two-handed (hence the combat shield and not storm shield, but then there is the option for storm shield so not so sure) or maybe specialist weapon instead of unwieldy would have made more sense to me (sacrifice the extra attack for the strength bonus).... unwieldy seems the least appropriate IMHO but I do agree that the points value makes it maybe more likely to be a true value. The fluff doesn't necessarily translate well & make sense, but that isn't unusual with GW. Josh

I thought that the storm shields were reserved for veterans? Since the Champion is not considered a 'veteran' then cannot access the SS? This is going by the same logic as the apothecary argument in the Deathwing CS thread. I'm not a rules nazi and prefer 'Rules as intended' over 'Rules as written' but I'm not seeing how the Champion has access to the SS.

Sadly they didn't fix that in the FAQ sad.png I was hoping they will.

Fluffwise when we meet Space Wolves we have a champions duel smile.png I think that we have beat them so many times that we have finally decided to give them a chance and took pointed stick of Caliban.

Do you imagine that fight now?

Our champ will die 5 times of 6 and that one time he survives he won't be able to kill his enemy smile.png

Correct - Champion is no longer Veteran, same as Apothecary.

Then even the storm shield is out for the guy. The Greenwing Command Squad is sounding more viable as a shooty unit with 4 plasmaguns and an apothecary, or as a pure melee beatstick with power swords and storm shields and an apothecary, or even just as a squad to hold a sacred banner in a land raider. With the Champion made of so much suckage, it'll leave them an achillies heel in a challenge and would be better suited saving the points and sticking with a regular veteran.

And, if anything, the Blade of Caliban model would probably be more suited as simply an elaborate power sword or one of the chapter relics such as the Monster Slayer or Mace Sword of Redemption.

Keep in mind that other FaQs may come along, they didn't give Asmodai a bolt pistol in this FaQ, even though it's on his bloody model. With any luck, some new FaQ will be added in the future.

Is there a model for the Blade of Caliban? The only new ornate sword I can think of is the DW Sergeant's which is a normal power sword, since the Champion in the DW box has the Halberd, not the Blade.

Yep, it's a bit in the Ravenwing Command Squad box, you can see it here: https://s3-eu-west-1...Champion/01.jpg and here: https://s3-eu-west-1...Champion/20.jpg

IMO, it'd be more suited in design for an HQ, rather than the free pain token / free boon roll Greenwing and Ravenwing Champion.

Yeah, there is a sword shown as the Blade of Caliban for the Champion in the Ravenwing Command Squad box set. I think it is the most ornate sword in the new boxes.

Jeesh. Ninja'd.

Haven't seen an updating on this thing showing new posts.

I'm hoping to use it for my converted Belial. If it gets here this month...

Apologies brother, try this: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod1830080a select your preferred language and then click on the first 360 degree image in the bottom slide-bar, that should be the Ravenwing Champion [he has the winged beakie helm, btw.].

The blade seems longer compared to the other power swords in the kit, so it would scale well with Terminator armour and not look too dinky.

I'll probably snag one from ebay to replace the bent sword Balthazar's model has in the 6th ed starter set I got. >_>

Neato. That's a good looking blade, right there!

The company champion...what where they thinking? Good thing we got deathwing, or spacewolfs would be laughing every time they faced us. "Blade of Caliban" more like blade of fail, and the combatshield only makes it worse. At least he can die a heroic death and hold up strong characters for a turn (in which he diescry.gif ). Well, you cant have it all I suppose.

Maybe we missed a rule that states "if champion dies then all units within 12" have +2Attacks for 3 turns" that would make sense to give him such a weapon.

That would make him like the GK Brotherhood Champion as a kamikaze unit.

*DA Champion: *Gagged and tied up, is shoved towards Chaos Champion by the rest of the CMD Squad.*

Apothecary: "We so totally have your back, brother!"

DA Champ: "Mmpph! Mpppphm!! Mmmmpth!?!"

Chaos Champ: "...?" *Shrugs* *Stabs*

DA Champ: "Mmmmmpphh!" *Dies*

Chaos Champ: "Yay! Boon me Dark Gods!"

Apothecary: "By the Lion! He killed our Champion!"

Banner Carrier: "You jerks!"

Apothecary: "He's dead Jim, I'm a marine not a doctor, I did all I could!"

Banner Carrier: "Well... actualy you are a doctor, and my name's not Jim..."

Apothecary: "It's in the past, there's no time for grieving! GET HIM!"

Chaos Champ: "!?!"

Not really. Apart from the few debate threads as far as the rules are concerned, the new dex has brought quite a lot of new players to this section of the forum. It was rather quiet before this as it was all painting threads or the rumour thread as people waited for the new dex to drop.
