DominicJ
I play blood angels and have the better part of three full companies. I fancied a change, and thought, "who out there is faster and hits harder than blood angels? DEldar!" So, I check my LRB, and see that my beloved angels are almost the only people out there who cant ally with DEldar. But Wolves can! So, knowing that wolves are just about worthy of being spoken of in the same paragraph as angels, I thought, why not do a space wolves army, with a DEldar detachment, as a way of starting to play DEldar without buying a full 1800 army. After a quick look through the codex, you do appear to do killing well. Is 6 Grey Hunter packs (2 each dual flamer, melta, plasma) in rhinos viable? Guest Drunk Guardian
It is viable... but I'll warn that an over-saturation of Grey Hunters at low points levels will hamper your ability to kill based solely on points investment. Grey Hunters ARE awesome without question, but their awesomeness is in their price and flexibility... they are not a juggernaut unit that needs to be fielded in droves to create an i-win button. Just my 2 cents. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/270038-blood-angel-thinking-about-going-grey/#findComment-3289883 Share on other sites

Ghostwolfalpha
The advice I give to all blood claws is, this army is a wolf pack in more then just name. When units work together and move in tandem, they excel, when left alone or unsupported, they quickly die. Is there a reason you want to do DE? I feel like BA and SW lists are highly mobile and kick ass. I play BA allies and have had a ton of success. If your trying to get away from Power armour armies, then best of luck with the xenos. I love the horror on my opponents faces when they have to choose between shooting at my Thunderwolf cavalry or the assault squads screaming toward their front lines. Arez
Is 6 Grey Hunter packs (2 each dual flamer, melta, plasma) in rhinos viable? No on 2 accounts, one like other people have said Hunters are good but arent juggs, and 2; you cant take 2 flamers and a melta in a pack.a good idea is to have 2-3 full 10 man packs supported by long fangs and points permitting WG termies Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/270038-blood-angel-thinking-about-going-grey/#findComment-3289956 Share on other sites
Wulfebane
and 2; you cant take 2 flamers and a melta in a pack. I believe he means a pair of each. Dual flamers, dual meltas, and dual plasma. Squark
Comments- Dark Eldar don't really work with Space Wolves either. Desperate allies means that the Dark Eldar allied detatchment's movement is horribly limited by your Space Wolves, and Dark Eldar live and die by their mobility. If you want Dark Eldar, your ally choices are pretty much only Craftworld Eldar or Corsairs out of IA 13 (Think that's the right number, anyway). Starting off space wolves-wise, my basic suggestion would be for a foot list started with a battleforce and a rune Priest, followed by adding long fangs and rhinos if you're going for mech. Space Wolves will make a decent ally choice for your Blood Angels, actually- Grey Hunters make an excellent rearguard to Assault Squads, Rune Priests are amazing in any Battle Brothers pairing (Or an allies of convenience pairing that doesn't mind not using it's own psykers, as Runic Weapons cancel the psychic powers of any nearby enemy, including allies of convenience, who count as enemies for almost all purposes), and Thunderwolf Cavalry are always a blast. Wolf Priests are excellent for Battle Brothers too, since Preferred Enemy, Fearless, and Stealth (With Saga of the Hunter) all apply to the whole squad if one model in the unit has those rules, even if the FAQ says that the rune priest doesn't actually give them the models themselves the rule (Fearless guard blobs with Stealth and Preferred Enemy (infantry) are really silly). Ghostwolfalpha
Move units in groups, keep them somewhat close, terrain permitting, to one another. Spacewolves are the kings of the midfield. When I run thunderwolf cav, I have a unit or two to move up the board with them to force my opponent to make the hard choice about what to shoot. Do they kill my cav, the vindicator, or my rhino with a RP and Grey Hunters. When your units do make contact, you should be able to push multiple units into the fray to maxamize damage and ensure you dont get stuck in a tarpit. When in the backfield, use two units of big guns. Double long fangs are popular, but any big guns will work as long as it works for your playstyle. Last time I fought csm, I had a rhino and two asscan razors that moved up the board to engage the enemy while my longfangs and RP sat in back and supported them and my vindicator took the brunt of big guns fire. Always put a hard decisions in front of your oponent and always make them think they made the wrong one. I find doubt is a very god ally.
