HellJumper117
The Emperor is nothing but a jumped up warlord anyways who was in no ways unique but perhaps the strongest and most clever of the elevated human cognoscynth warlords who have been guiding/controlling/warring over humanity throughout the 40k timelines. This is why he was unique. >Have you read "Prince of Crows"? Because that makes it crystal clear that Konrad did not "kill just for kicks" and that he was capable of more than just skinning people and eating their dogs (as he negotiated with the ruling elite of Nostromo to be named king). And for your Mars example I can give many others where the Emperor's legions brought peace and unity by the swift and merciless slaughter of all who would not bend the knee. (Shrike, Oneiros, and Calis, for starters). Also, if you think the Martian priesthood yoked themselves to Emps purely because of his charisma and intelligence, with no regard for the fact that his warships and Thunder Warriors could break their planet apart...Ha!The Emperor didn't just come to Mars, stick a gun into the Fabricator General's face, and say 'join me'. He made a damn good case for being the Omnissiah that they all worshipped, and through guile and diplomatic skill he united the two worlds. The threat of force was undoubtedly there, but I think if the god you had been worshipping for the past few thousand years suddenly appeared at your doorstep, you'd be a little less worried about his guns and more awed by his mere presence. If I'm not wrong, the Emperor touched one of the Knights (1 man crew miniature titan) and he said something like 'Be healed, machine' and tada the leg started to not give problems for that knight. Inquisitor Kravin
I think that his treatment of Lorgar was bad. He let him crusade for a century and then totally crushed his morale. Imagine if you worked really hard at a job for ten years and then one day your boss tossed out everything you'd ever done and declared that you were worthless and had never achieved anything, wouldn't you be . You'd think, I know he's busy but did he never have time to send me a quick note saying, "By the way, can you lay-off the whole religious angle, it's messing up the secular truth message we're aiming for."? I think that there are three major possibilities to explain apparently poor handling of the Primarchs: 1. The Emperor was so ancient and powerful that he had lost all concept of what it was like to be human. He was utterly ruthless and utilitarian. Horus had fond memories of a father-son bond but what represented a significant portion of Horus's lifespan was a blink of an eye to the Emperor. The Primarchs were just tools to the Emperor and he didn't really think about their feelings. 2. The Emperor disposed of the Thunder Warriors once they were no longer useful. Maybe he intended to do the same with the Legiones Astartes. When the Great Crusade was complete he might retain a chosen few such as Guilliman and Dorn who were potential adminsitrators and defenders but he would have no need of the aggressive conquerors. They would just be a potential liability so he would use their discontent/failings to eliminate them, one by one, as he had expunged the 2nd and 11th Legions. Most of the other Primarchs would support the extermination of Angron (crazed animal), Kurze (sick sadist), Magnus (Witchmind), etc. Then he could rule over an Imperium of human subjects, none of whom were sufficiently powerful to challenge him. 3. The Heresy was part of the Emperor's plan. The way some events played into the creation of the Heresy I wonder if the Emperor intended the Heresy for similar reasons to point 2 plus his own ascension to divine power (the Starchild theory).
