BenjamminUK
I really want some crusaders in my army but the GW models are expensive, anyone got any ideas ?? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/270119-alternate-crusaders-models/ Share on other sites
*Furyou Miko
I used Dark Eldar warriors and Wyches with shields drawn from various sources. Mostly Brettonian and Empire kits, I think. The DEldar need some work with the spikes and the blades filing off and if you can put some Ecclesiarchy symbols on there somewhere it would help. I ended up using a pair of Ral Partha weapon sprue axes and the Wych elbow-blade on mine (I'll upload pictures eventually) and gave them milliput/grey stuff cloaks. Haven't finished them yet because I need to work out what heads to use - might just end up cloning some Sabbat-patten helms for them off the one I have left from my immolator sprues. *Furyou Miko
lol, I bought them years and years ago. It was a little blister pack with four sprues in... two katanas, two axes with infinity signs on them, two shields bearing three lions passant, a couple of ornate longswords, two bows... can't remember what else. Was a really cool set though. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/270119-alternate-crusaders-models/#findComment-3291060 Share on other sites
Brother Bobert
I've been using easterling warriors, clipped off the little head doilies, trimmed down the sheilds and added the =][=. You get 10 models for 27 bucks, I think they've upped the price since I got mine, but 4 of the 10 end up having bows, I've had them on the side waiting to convert em to melee weapons and shields. http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat980023a&prodId=prod1500511a http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1251293_99061464044_ColLotREasterlingsMain_445x319.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/270119-alternate-crusaders-models/#findComment-3292064 Share on other sites

Eddie Orlock
I think I'd just re-base some brettonian Men-At-Arms, and maybe glue a techno-widet on the back of the shields, 'cause that's where the save comes from. Distaff counterparts are trickier for the lack of parts. I think enclosed helmets are the way to go here. Depending on the quantiry required and the budget, I'd look at bret knight helms. For Torsos, some of the eldar guardian chest plates have comparatively subtle curves on them. I wouldn't want blatent torpedo breasts, but maybe that's just me. Legs are tricky, especially with the torsos spec'd above. The guardian kit is a natural fit, but we don't want them to look like Xenos, and I'd like the plating to look a little more square. If I could find plastic empire knights on foot, they'd probably have the esthetic I'm looking for. There might be something in the high elf range that fits the bill, but they tend to have skirts and that just feels not quite right to me. For arms, I think I'd see if the storm guardian arms are still in circulation and use that for sword arms, with wrist rotated leftarms from the standard guardian kit to carry the shields, for shields, I still like the towers from the men at arms kit. wraithman
I created my Crusaders using SM Scouts as the basis, with power swords from my bitz box, and scartch-built shields using layers of index card and glue (using a two liter bottle to bend the card into a curved shape), with strips of plastic to fashion the shield rims. I made my own decals, painting them up and adding appropriate symbology culled from GW sources. AllistorPreist
When the crusaders went to finecast I gave this some thought. Dark Elf Warriors with a head and weapon swap could work especially if I have a bunch of imperial power weapons and possibly a few stormshields laying around. I am also kinda partial to the High Elf Phoenix Guard, but the two handed poses may make them harder to work with. I suspect the new Dark Angel Deathwing kits we will see some more Storm Shields on ebay (admittedly with Angel motifs.) But to be honest, I really like the crusader model so I am just going to buy them very slowly.
