Soul Reaper
Evening brothers I've decided to put together a force of Flame Falcons earlier today I started a thread asking for some advice here http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/270286-flame-falcons-need-advice/ I've also spent the last 2 hours working on this, this is my first attempt at using green stuff so I apologise for the crappiness of it im hoping to get better as this project continues. http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo171/loken86_2008/FLAME%20FALCONS/DSCF3772_zps68115920.jpg http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo171/loken86_2008/FLAME%20FALCONS/DSCF3776_zps97050c45.jpg http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo171/loken86_2008/FLAME%20FALCONS/DSCF3774_zps4cd98efe.jpg http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo171/loken86_2008/FLAME%20FALCONS/DSCF3773_zpsc3d64c8a.jpg http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo171/loken86_2008/FLAME%20FALCONS/DSCF3772_zps68115920.jpg So what do you all think any advice for a rookie? Thanks for looking. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/270310-flame-falcons-project-2013/ Share on other sites
Bjorn Firewalker
A rookie myself, I wish you luck in your endeavor- it seems the model will be difficult to paint in a way that does NOT make it look like someone accidentally dropped it into a recently used toilet. Volfen
I think I can see where you are going with this and it could be very cool. I'm not sure tho if you are wishing for an actual "fire" effect or a stylized modification to the armor. If the former, I think a "less is more" direction might be called for; i.e. just along the tops of the armor joints, shoulderpads, etc. The actual greenstuff sculpting looks very fire-like, and with the right paint, could look very nice either way. keep it up! Looking forward to seeing more. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/270310-flame-falcons-project-2013/#findComment-3293098 Share on other sites
Captain Semper
Just for the record, I'm lousy with green stuff - so although I can comment on the final product, I doubt I'll be able to give technical advice... :( Having said that this looks impressive (especially for a first time user of green stuff)! Flames are dificult to do to begin with so I'd go easy on them at the beginning... In this particular case the flames on the helmet look a bit off especially compared with the flames on the legs that look ok to me! I agree with Volfen - less is probably more in this case... Kierdale
I think we won't know for sure until it's painted, but I'd say it looks very good so far. Just be sure to get the colouring right: yellow deep in, red to the extremities. People often do it the other way around. SCC
I think we won't know for sure until it's painted, but I'd say it looks very good so far. Just be sure to get the colouring right: yellow deep in, red to the extremities. People often do it the other way around. It can work either way in my experience. The Legion of the Damned Marines from GW are a good example of dark to light there are also some good examples of the reverse out there, especially some really good 'magma' kind of flames. LOTD Dreadnought - I'd consider this a 'magma' effect, but it's certainly effective. @Soul Reaper: You've set yourself quite a challenge with the LotD and sculpted flames, but if you really want to try 'Impossible Difficulty' I've always wanted to see someone use clear sculpting materials (maybe the resin water stuff?) and tint it so you can still see the model beneath Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/270310-flame-falcons-project-2013/#findComment-3293200 Share on other sites
