Wolfguard in PA with Stormshield & Hammer and other Question

I built 2 of these, painted them & then found out how much they cost. A huge amount for the hammer & then a huge amount for the stormshield . . . can this be correct?

Now another question: For those WG that have jump packs and 2 wolfclaws, does one pay points for each claw or do they come as a pair?

Hello,

yes it's expensive !!! 68 points ?

the same in TDA: 63 points...

I never give them this wargear: only in TDA

If I keep them in PA, combi bolter or stormbolter...+ power sword or ckaws.

The claws: pay for each... it is written "wolf claw" and not claws

Kitting wolf guard out is very expensive!

Why not just use your cool looking guys as "counts as"  Power weapon WGPL,  so you can still use them.   I doubt most players will be too bothered about this.

If you want your best bang for buck give your WG TDA.   You get a "free" power weapon along with the obvious 2+ which is amazingly handy in cc with a banner ( lets you reroll failed saves :)

The other option is using allies.

The new DA book would be a good bet as you could take Belial and a unit of Hammernators as a troops choice making them scoring.  Plus you could give one of the hammernators a CML for some added firepower.  True, they wouldn't have counter attack or acute senses and couldn't split off to join other units, but it's one way of getting them in at a more competitive pts cost.

The other option would be SM/BA Hammernators and a TA Captain/Reclusiarch/Libby to lead them, with a unit of scouts as the compulsory troops choice.

Laterz...

I don't think you can do that any more as Belial can only be used as part of the primary contingent.

So it would be Space wolf allies for your dark angels.

Talking of WG in PA...

As the op shows gearing WG in PA can be expensive.  Out of curiosity does anyone use WG in PA regularly and if so how do you gear them?  I am thinking melta and sword might be best followed by melta and axe but I could be way off here which is why I am asking.

Thanks in advance.

I was planning on going melta and axe but then changed my mind - if you're wearing power armour you may as well go @ base init. Wolf claws are probably worth the extra 5 points, but it does drive up the cost of the model!

Yeah I went back and forth between axe and sword then I just basically reversed engineered your math hammer on what was most effective against the WGTDA . WC are good but as you said just drive up the cost.

Seriously WG + PSword/Axe + CPlas is 33 pts right?

And WG +TDA + Axe + CPlas is 38 pts so hard not to opt immediately into TDA anyway they way I count it out... geek.gif .

If you are throwing your WG into a transport and need him in PA then you can always double up on the combis.   So for 28 pts you get a WG with 2 combi plasmas.    Makes your unit a lot more useful.  Although unless its in a  razorback you are probably still better with 10 GHs really.
