Iron Priest on Thunderwolf

Recommended Posts

Brothers,

I was curious if any of you were still running the Iron Priest on a Thunderwolf with 4 Cyber Wolves unit and have had any success with it in 6th Edition.  I was building up some TWC and was making one of them "convertable" to be an Iron Priest is the reason I ask.

The price comes in at 155 which could get you 3 TWC which seems like it might pack more of a punch (though the iron priest does have his thunder hammer/servo arm for that AP2ness).  The Iron Priest is a character (though not independent) which is good and bad.  He gets precision strikes and Look Out Sir saves which is good considering he has no invulnerable save.  With 1 wound he probably isn't going to be the best in challenges though.  But he does have a 2+ and is Toughness 5.

To me it definitely seems like a lot of points for a 1 wound model (since if he dies the wolves go with him) but wanted to get others opinions.  With that build he is more offensive and I wouldn't envision using his repair ability too often.  I have only played one game so far in 6th, so probably haven't considered all the new rule changes.

I have been thinking about how I would run a Thunderlord with 2 Fenrsian Wolves attached to an Iron Priest on a TWM with 4 Cyber Wolves.

My thoughts are that it is a very hard hitting unit with flexibilty in challenges and passing shooting off on the Fenrisian/Cyber Wolves. In addition, the majority toughness of the combined unit stays at Toughness 5 almost indefintely with the Cyber Wolves, Thunderlod, and Iron Priest all at T5 and with only the Fenrisian Wolves at T4.
