belial conversion question

Are you making the actual character Belial, or someone to take Belial's place and use his rules?

If it's the former, take a look at the real Belial's face and decide whether you're happy with the difference between the two heads. If not, use the helmet! No one knows what Belial's helmet looks like, anyway.

If it's the latter, go crazy. It won't matter what you do.

I used the bare head, simply because I made all 3 Belial models (LC, THSS, SBPS) and he is the only model without a helmet.  Easy to find in an army.  Chaplains have skull masks and shoulder pads.  Again, easy to find.  Librarians have purple neonish force weapons.  I run a pure Deathwing with only terminators, so ease of identifying models is a priority for me.

If I had to make a new Belial based off the Deathwing Terminator box. I would use the masked one. Hell if I had the choice all my DWK would be the masked one. I just hate the idea of a Marine going into battle without some head protection. Looks wise I'd go with what Jimbo1701 (just realized the illustrious Captain Kirk is in our presence :P), that look of "you mean nothing to me and I shall dispose of you as such" is an awesome look.

I used this head as I thought it portrayed Belial's grim countenance the best:

to be honest this is exactly what im doing and was trying to decide which head between that one and the bare crested head from the black knights box... any help?

In the current codex, all the Belial pics have him wearing a hood. I'm a sucker for the look of the hooded heads to begin with, so that's what I'm using for my Belial conversion. After that, I'd say bald head, since other artwork seems to show him without hair. This, of course, is if you're going for "accuracy." While I understand the whole "who goes into battle without a helmet?" logic, 40K space marines are all about exposed heads for leaders, and I tend to stick with that most of the time. There's something about being able to see the expression on the face of your leader models that is appealing to me, and it does make them stand out.

I like to think that when you reach the level of command, you receive a very tiny force field generator, just capable enough to protect your head.

I based my conversion off of this pic (above).

I saw it before over here: http://indexastartes.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/azrael-and-belial-plastic-conversions.html (<-- is that your blog Jimbo?)

I think just about everything in those bits are perfect. I left off the shield on the shoulder,  I'm also going to file off the studs on top of the hood and the iconography on the tip of the sword to make it look a bit more unique.

If you look at images of the finecast model on GW's site (360 view) you can even see the exact shoulder pads to use from the command squad sprue (both sides), they're there.

I really think GW should have just put the bits to make Belial into the command squad box and have been done with it, kinda like the master of the ravenwing landspeeder.  Would have been way better than that sucky finecast model that is likely not selling very well.

This springs to mind. thumbsup.gif

Which bare head is that? Is it the one shouting with the funky headphones?

Yep, that's mine. I'm trying to keep it updated regularly and so at the moment it's getting a lot of Dark Angel love.

Here's mine, inspired by Jimbo1701s above:

It uses the same head, and many of the other parts, with a few differences.

Cheers,

Nice!

Great use of the Blade of caliban. I like the banner a lot (may have to steal that one as mine is still has a placeholder banner) and the sunken chaos marine.

Top stuff!
