@Brother Syth: Long time no see smile.png Decals mate, added on large shields, as my freehand sucks. Eyes aren't still quite right but nearly there. Oddly enough I may be working in Perth at some point this year.

@deathspectresgt7: The single PA one I have used so far fitted fine. I haven't tried the termie ones as yet.

@Stobz: Ta brother. Merely staying focused will be an epic task for me smile.png See below to see how I failed at that...

Well, I ended up tidying my work station and disassembling and cleaning my airbrush. I then started looking through various sprues and bitz for parts for the jetbike. Then two ideas took root and wouldn't leave so I had to knock two concepts together. Okay, had means "wanted to" smile.png

As I will be using Ravenwing and Deathwing these are still part of the project anyway. Note they are very rough.

Counts as Belial. He'll be in very golden armour, with a knight-shield on each shoulder pad to make up for the general lack of knightishness. And lots of bling and parchment generally. I have sawn off Huron's shoulder pads and when Dremelled out I'll swap them in as they are far more appropriate (I'll use the ones picture on a sergeant). I may also saw off the front of the chest and swap in a robed Deathwing Knight one.

The cloak is just a place holder, as well as being back to front. I'll sculpt a greenstuff one with White Lion of Chrace plastic lion plets in it. And lots of other ideas which will become apparent as I fiddle about with them. For example I tried Korvydae's head and that looked pretty good too. However, he will be helmetless so some sort of head will be present. I may even drill out a Lysander's head and try these arms on that body. Or go back to just using Carab's storm bolter arm as is, or use the Deathwing Sergeant one. Or...you get the idea...too many ideas, only one figure.

As stated it was just s quick pin and blu-tac to see what they might look like smile.png Early days but I think they show promise.

I will try and spend the lion's share* of my time on these today.

*I am in trouble with the pun police now.

Oh wow, I would love to see pictures of what that model would look like with the korvydae head or Lysander. The latter would be one hell of a challenge to cut out though, wouldn't it? Oop, I reread that statement in your post- still, I stand by the idea I suggested

One absolutely over the top idea I had after staring at this Belial was putting some gothic domes<?> on top of the terminator armor, giving the model some imposing height and also displaying a more, antiquated Iron Halo system for him. Here are two links to what I'm talking about:

A dark angels chaplain done by our very talented forum poster Greyall

As cool, and dark angel-esque the crotch plate with shield and adjacent lantern is, perhaps a robed torso is the way to go. Any ideas for embellishment on the leg greave that only has a scroll on it currently? Perhaps a large medieval coat of arms lion motif could be molded/sculpted on there. msn-wink.gif

@The_Chaplain: Thanks :) The Korvydae head looks good (I tried that first) but I took no pictures. When I re-fit the Dremmeled Huron shoulders (which will then be pads) I'll take piccies on the body as is and the metal Lysander body. Note metal body. Cutting the head out without trashing the miniature looks unlikely, probably doable with Finecast though. As I already have 6 metal Lysanders I am not buying a Finecast one for a head. I have enough mohawk Carab Culln ones as is as I have 6 of him too :) As for the other ideas they are good but too baroque and gothic for what I am going for with this style. A for the legplate I haven't thought about it as I did this today...

Still need to heat shape some plastic with hot water and a hair-dryer to fit to curves, and I need to lower the eagle wings in front of the handlebars. I'll probably bore out the stormbolter gun barrel holes in pairs on either side of the front cowling just in front of the small shields. However I may fit them on top of the engine between the handle bars like a WWI fighter bi-plane (unlikely but I'll have a fiddle). Also some sort of mural on the far front of each side of the cowling will possibly work, almost like bike art, but it will have to be simple (possibly something like Saint Mark's winged lion with halo and sword). That might be a bit much for me though ;)

Still lots to do, and still not glued at all really. Small brass etch eagles will abound, and rivets, as well as some Ad-mech symbols cut off of something else and put on a cricular bit out of sight on the engine near his legs. Also Leonatus needs fine detail work such as rivets, small purity seals, a holstered bolt pitsol and grenades (I'll use FW Tigrus for that as I have some), and a crux somewhere as a Master he will have been a Deathwing Knight (or my Chapters equivalent) at some point. And some sort of lion fur cape/cloak.

As stated, loads to do still and still very rough :) However I can now at least separate it into its main resin components and start gluing/fitting bits to those, in essence sub-assembly to paint the components separately.

I did make some moulds from the three termie cloaks I have though as I have the chaos lord one, the Deathwing Sergeant one, and Asterion's (copying the technique Ravendove used for his scouts camo cloaks). My idea for termies are that all Deathwing Knights will have Grey Knight termie helms and capes (and robes) with Scibor lion headed pads and filed Forgeworld Black Templat storm shields, Deathwing command squad specials (standard bearer, champion etc) will have only Grey Knight termie helms and Scibor lion head pads. Deathwing termie sergeants will have capes and the Astral Claws lion headed shoulder pads (as I have five) and "normal" termies will be my usual melange of marks and helmets and studs that I did for my Doom Fists.

Full of the cold though so the Apothecary (the missus) says (orders) an early night would be wise (compulsory).

I thought I'd better make an account on here and post seeing as I knocked together the Lion Knights logos in Adobe Illustrator for Marius, and thanks to the huge trade we did, acquired a rather large, mostly Slaaneshi Chaos Space Marines force off him, which I may in time start blogging about - bear in mind I don't possess Marius' exquisite (and perhaps slightly insane) attention to detail however!

I can tell you the Jetbike looks more beautiful in the flesh, having seen it in person.

I have been doing something else for a bit and will be for the next few days. The gaming club I am loosely associated with is opening a club in my hometown at my local pub. I am painting some Forge World Cityfight stuff. This is it so far...

All I can say is wow!

This will be epic (and a massive project ;) ) when done - loving all the lions and bling.

Good luck brother.

For some reason (and ever since Ihad this idea I've unable to get it out of my head) I can't help but think Achillion would look smashing with a goatee or beard sculpted from green stuff. Just needed to get that out of my head. :p

Woah this is epic! love the jetbike commander, a cool different approach to a dark angels force. while the painting work on the good old school forge world building sets is rather realistic looking.

also looking at the i insignias id go for C looks more closer to a unique marking.

The building is nearly done, just weathering powders for rust and dust and blending, some highlighting, water effects and dirt staining and oil spills to do (and some green flecked paint on ammo crates and fuel drums). I have done work on the other three as well but not enough to report or take piccies. I also fancy building some minis anyway, but I really should finish off those Doom Fist termies too. Unfortunately the light levels dropped on the last three so the flash has bleached the colours a bit, the first one is more indicative of how the shades actually look.

@SanguiniusReborn: A big beard and mane like hair might be good. Desert Eagle did something like that using the Forge World Space Wolf terminator conversion kit. I'll dig mine out and have a look see.

I have gone through my part built marine kits to try and give this project (and others) a quick boost by using stuff that I have duplicates of. So I have taken some bikes, a land raider crusader, a land speeder tornado with twin multi-meltas, and a Forge World dreadnought drop pod from my Doom Fists. Hopefully this will make me convert them to Lions and build some "Deathwing" termies and a "Deathwing" dreanought. I have two plastic venerable dreadnought kits gathering dust and I have been meaning to build one for some time.

So having decided to let what was part-built drive what I was going to do I collated them together on an unpainted Forge World battle board. This is something else that I'll sort out to take piccies of completed minis on in future. I may actually go look at the codex and point them up. At this rate I may actually have a battle in March, chosen by serendipty and happentsance :)

As can be seen in the background the tank factory is nearly done. I have worked on the other three buildings as well but I fancy building (no pun intended) some actual miniatures.

  • 2 years later...

Dear Marius,

your ideas as inspiring, thank you for them,

I do have one question - the right shoulder pad on your terminator knight-champion is not from Scibor is it?

your commander seems to have a very similar one, but without the cloth hanging below it.

can you please advise me where you purchased these shoulder pads?

or what you used to create them.

much appreciated!
