3} Lone Wolf (especially liking this option in lower points games)

Power Armor, Bolt Pistol, CCW

Pros:

- 20pts

- Does not require a Pack to attach to

- Precision Shot, 2 Wounds, Eternal Warrior, Feel No Pain, A Glorious Death

Cons:

- Single model

- Still susceptible to Baleflamer, but more durable.

Lone Wolves also have Beast Slayer which could be beneficial with Flying Monstrous Creatures like Demon Princes.

The Quadgun is already Twin-linked, rendering Beast Slayer useless.

Right though the Icarus Lascannon is not (and 15 points cheaper)

The problem with the defense line vs a baleflamer is that the wall is pointless. Also, the vector stike may be able to tear apart the stationary gun then flame anything inside. I like the Dreadnought behind the line, 12 armour and a 4+ cover has done very well for me and having the Iron Priest to fix it up seems like a good idea, but it is quite a point sink to stop flyers.

How often are people seeing flyers in their games?

I cant remember the last time I didn't have to worry about one.

How reliable is it at stopping flyers anyway? it doesn't have skyfire!

The quadgun is for flyers, the Dreadnought is firesupport for my advancing forces, it relplaces long fangs who would get destroyed by the dragon. The Dreadnought has a chance and will probably be ignored by the helldrake.

Well Guys my regular chaos opponent has told me that he will add helldrakes to his list. he reckons thats the only way to beat SW. So I have helped GW sell stuff (or my Wolves have). I am gonna get hold of the quad gun, with a prophetic Runepriest nearby. That should take the dragon out of the sky. GW wins again cause I am spending money too ........... Funny how after a game some opponents will blame their loss on " Space Wolves are just too good!" "Your list is too hard!" and all sorts of other excuses except to accept that they might have been outmanouvered and/ or had their mistakes exploited. Bring those Helldrakes because I will welcome less whining.

against every list there's a counter-list. I usually tend to make a balanced list, capable of taking on a multitude of opponents, even though i almost exclusivly play against bloodangels and necrons. the best anti flyer army is currently the imperial guard, but things might change quickly when the tau get an update. fluffwise i think it's "fitting" most of our lists "struggle" with flyers. astartes aren't meant to be static forces (anymore) like they were in the days of the legions. they are mostly about hit and run tactics (although on a much larger scale), overwhelming the opponent in a crucial area, crippling them completly and allowing the rest of the imperial forces to mop up after them

this makes me cheese so hard, but hey since when have the sons of Russ been afraid to fight fire breathing lizards , it seems to me that space wolves succeed or fail directly from the actions of their owning player (taken partially the codex) not the rules we are given, exploitable or not. It"s the same reason i play space wolves, you need skill to use them, they are and have been a tactics army, and from my experience so are the people who play them tactically inclined. That is the reason why so many others think we ,of all other armies, are over powered and they need such things to beat us. Fliers, dragons, new rules, and codexies, rabble, rabble, rabble, we can still hold our own and dominate, just the way Russ intended.

personaly I've thought about buying a friend of mine ( a chaos player with 10 or so years of experience on me) a heldrake or two to make things interesting. sure there's math and statistics in every asset of the game but problem solving is the name of the game, and like wolves in the wild we adapt, thrive, and enjoy the meaty joys of the hunt.

oh and as a thought from personal experience in the military, "no war is ever won without men putting their boots on the ground." i don't remember who originally said it but to me its held true, and well i think grey hunters do it the best ~ cheers my brothers
