thunderwolves or terminators? help please!

I am wondering what I should get for my next purchase for my wolf army. I already have a priest, 2 GH squads and a long fang unit - and wanted to add some bling :) Sadly, I am a little stuck between thunder wolves and terminators....

what do you guys think? (I love the look of both models, so this is really more about effectiveness)

Thunderwolves

+ vikings on giant wolves... need I say more?

+ s5, t5, and lots of attacks

+ cavalry - so long reach

+ survivable with SS, and can hurt nasties with TH

- get expensive quickly

- need a lord for true effectiveness

Terminators

+ Super customisable with combo weapons

+ Assault cannon/ cyclone can bring the pain

+ flexible midfield unit, so more synergy with GHs

+ 2+ save, can be pretty brutal with wolf banner

- can do a lot of things really well, but will be outshone by hammernators in CC, MCs will probably still eat them

- other armies have terminators, so not truly unique (but still nice models!)

so, anything that I should think about?

Thanks!

Personally I think you'll get more flexibility with the TDAWGs; you can field them as pack leaders for your GH packs or, as you build your collection further, field them as their own unit. That said, the Thunderwolves would add an interesting twist to your army, though they will often be unsupported because of their speed relative to the rest of your collection.

Personally, I've found that, played correctly and understanding their limitations, they are both equally effective. However...

They are few things in this game to equal the fun of a 3 man TWC pack with a storm shield, led by a ThunderLord and just smashing something. Every time, I march up to the foe's army, they fires everything, most shots bounce off, and then I kill something important. Then they inevitably die in a blaze of glory worthy of the sagas.

Terminators are found in all Space Marine codexes (I believe). Thunderwolf Cavalry are found in one.

Looking at your army, though, I'd say the terminators are a better pick at this juncture, since they're more practical at low point values thanks to their ability to act as pack leaders. Frankly I'd recommend a third pack of Grey Hunters first, though I understand how frustrating it can be to have a horde of grey hunters only partially painted staring you in the face without something like Terminators, Thunderwolves, or the like to look forward to. One of the nice things about starting an allied detachment. Get board of painting Grey Hunters? Paint some Strike Knights and have fun with heraldry before getting back to work.

I completely agree with Squark. Judging by the content of your list so far, you would be better served by adding grit and survivability to your army. Thunderwolf Cavalry units are a hammer unit, and would be best used in lists where there are fast and mobile units to support them (Alpha striking GHs, bikes, sky claws etc). They could also be used as a support unit by themselves, again with podding GHs.

If you are intent on bringing TWC (and you should, they are super killy and fun to play with), bring more mobile units that the TWC can count on to assist when the forces of Chaos and the Xenos corral you into a last stand.

Sidenote: I bring a TWC Lord with 2 puppies. In a fight with the dresswearers, one puppy killed Belial off. Look on my opponent's face was priceless.

My termies get slaughtered, my TWC inevitably bounce a dozen or more shots off of them and get to combat largely unscathed. I've yet to see my terminators really decimate something in combat, to be honest. Only two attacks, no bonus from a pistol, no rerolls from a banner - they get beat up pretty good.

I'm in a similar situation with 20 GH a RP just got up to 3 LF (struggling getting cheap middle launchers) but got some cheap termies and 4 of them battered a chaos dread and obliteratos and took a LOT of fire away from my mass of bodies
