Dark Angels revisited

Hello there. Thanks for stopping by my humble blog smile.png

Hopefully having an army blog on here will motivate me to finish off my Dark Angel army. It's been a while since I've worked on them - I've been distracted by my Orcs n Goblins lately. My army blog on Da Warpath has helped me ALOT to get my models finished.

I have a gameable army of about 1000 points now, but I'm keen to expand it with the unpainted models I have. I'd like to share what I've finished so far, and post my progress.

My eventual army will be something like - 5 or 6 10-man Tactical Squads, 1 Scout Squad, 2 10-man Assault/Veteran Squads, 1 10-man Terminator Squad, 2 Dreadnaughts, 2 Razorbacks (possibly more), lots of Rhinos, 3 Predators, 1 10-man Devestator Squad. Quite a few thousand points all-up, but plenty to mix-and-match for different opponents.

First up, my AOBR Dreadnaught. I really like this model, not my best work but I like the look of him. I've noticed it needs some touching up and the basing finished off though.

Oooops tempus fugit, I'll have to post more of my models tomorrow - Tactical squads, tanks and tank conversion, assault squad, veteran squad, etc.

Thanks for looking smile.png

I'm a bit scared to drill out the barrels, I tried it on a few heavy bolters and I made a mess of it. I might find some tutorials on the best way to do it though. I'll practise on some bitz I have stockpiled and build up my confidence first. I think if I drill out the Multi-melta's barrels, then I'll have to drill out ALL the barrels in my army, sounds like alot of fiddly work :-s

Thanks facmanpob and Stobz :)

Thanks guys, I'll practise drilling barrels, hopefully I can improve my models without wrecking them :)

I thought I'd share my tanks - nothing flash or fancy but they've served me well in Garage Hammer battles so far. They're all WIP but I will return to them at some point in the future and finish them properly.

I won't weather them - tanks are a large investment for any army so I want my drivers to dodge all muddy puddles, avoid supermarket carparks, and jump out to hose them down at every given opportunity.

First up, something to infuriate the purists - my Baal Predator for when I play from a Blood Angel list. I LOVE tanks, but GW models are too pricey for my liking. 1:48 Russian Kv-1 with a handful of GW bitz, a pretty good size match to the official model. I'll add more red, a few more Imperial bitz, and some touching up. I have sponsons which I've Macgyvered, but they look a little silly so I might leave them off. I'm hunting around for two  more copies of this kit - $30 per tank vs. about $100.

Next, my Razorbacks. The Plasmagun conversion isn't mine, I bought it as a Black Templar Razorback and repainted it for my army. I'd like to add a few more with Assaultcannon turrets (I have the gun bitz), and paint up some Rhino hatches so I can swap them around between games. I'd like to dress them with bitz but for now they're gameable.

Fellow Sheep Shagger,

A little advice: before you drill ALWAYS use a sharp pin and dent a guide hole for the drill bit.

Also: use Bitzbarn or similar to save on GeeDubs insane pricing here in Godzone.

Great idea! I'd never thought of using a hot pin first!

Sometimes Trademe has great bitz, but it can be hit and miss sometimes. I have bought whole models cheaply on there just for a few components I 'needed'. Bitzbarn sound like a good plan though.

Thanks Stobz  :)

Since I have my tanks and my Dread posted, I thought I'd share my infantry too.

As with my tanks, these are still WIP, but I have used them for games as they are.

I need to rebase some of them too so they all match, plus there are a few fiddly jobs like eyes and backpacks to finish off.

Tactical Squad #1 - the bolter Marine in the front left was the first 40K model I ever painted (about 10 years ago), I used him as a template for the others BUT I am still experimenting with squad markings for them all (which is why some have transfers and others have freehand on their shoulder pads). I think he came with an old paint set, I enjoyed painting him so much that I started collecting Space Marines to game with.

Tactical Squad #2 - the Heavy Bolter model is from Warzone, I think. I laughed at the ridiculousness of the size of his gun so I HAD to have him!

Veteran Squad - I use these guys as Sternguard Veterans, or sometimes as a Command Squad. The character is an old-school Blood Angels model, one of the first Space Marines I ever painted.

Assault Squad - Old School Blood Angels metals with a Legion of the Damned character (who will need more green so he's not confused as a Chaplain). I'll expand this squad to ten models, and use the other ten I have for a Vanguard Veteran squad in either a Rhino or Landraider.
